Carbohydrates as ligands: coordination equilibria and structure of the metal complexes

TL;DR: A review of the literature on the metal ion complexes of carbohydrate type ligands with the emphasis on the past 20 years, discussing the equilibria and structure in aqueous solution together with the structures determined for the solid state complexes are collected for comparison as discussed by the authors.

Assessment of Polysaccharides from Mycelia of genus Ganoderma by Mid-Infrared and Near-Infrared Spectroscopy

TL;DR: An effective and convenient approach to quantitative assessment of the total polysaccharides in Ganoderma mycelia is achieved and it is demonstrated that infrared spectroscopy can be a powerful tool for quality control of GanoderMA poly Saccharides obtained from industrial production.

Oxovanadium(IV) and oxovanadium(V) complexes relevant to biological systems.

TL;DR: Different aspects of the coordination chemistry of oxovanadium(IV), relevant to the bioinorganic chemistry of vanadium, are presented and their structural, spectroscopic and magnetic properties are briefly discussed.

Antioxidant effects of the VO(IV) hesperidin complex and its role in cancer chemoprevention

TL;DR: When tested on two tumoral cell lines in culture, the complex enhanced the antiproliferative effects of the free ligand, and this effect correlated with the morphological alterations toward apoptosis, and on the osteoblastic cell line the complex stimulated cell proliferation and collagen type I production at low concentrations.

Three new vanadyl(IV) complexes with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (Ibuprofen, Naproxen and Tolmetin). Bioactivity on osteoblast-like cells in culture.

TL;DR: The synthesis and spectral and magnetic characterization of VO(2+) complexes with Ibuprofen, Naproxen, Tolmetin and 1-methyl-5-(4-methylbenzoyl)-1H-pyrrole-2-acetic acid showed different effects depending on the concentration and the cellular type, while no effect was observed for their parent drugs.

The Bioinorganic Chemistry of Vanadium

Dieter Rehder
- 01 Feb 1991 -
TL;DR: Despite its importance as a “biometal” both in primitive, prokaryotic organisms and in the highly organized ascidians, the bioinorganic chemistry of vanadium is still in its infancy.

Infrared and raman spectroscopy of carbohydrates : Part IV. Identification of configuration- and conformation-sensitive modes for D-glucose by normal coordinate analysis

TL;DR: In this article, a theoretical study of the normal modes of vibration for D -glucose has been made by normal coordinate analysis, and the calculated modes for β-Dglucoses are shown to be in good agreement with the observed infrared and Raman frequencies, and computed potential-energy distribution is compatible with previous experimental band-assignments.

Metal coordination to carbohydrates. Structures and function

TL;DR: In this article, the role of the metal in complexing carbohydrate derivatives is discussed and the applications of such derivatives in biotechnology, agriculture, and pharmaceuticals are discussed. But the main focus is on bio-medical applications.
