Synthesis of isothermal reactor—separator—recycle systems

TLDR
In this paper, a mixed integer nonlinear programming (MINLP) formulation is presented for the synthesis of isothermal separator-recycle systems with a variety of objectives such as the minimization of the total annual cost of the plant and the maximization of its profit, as well as objectives traditionally used for optimizing the performance of a reactor network.

A systematic modeling framework of superstructure optimization in process synthesis

TL;DR: In this paper, the state task network (STN) and state equipment network (SEN) are proposed as the two fundamental representations of superstructures for process systems involving mass, heat and momentum transfer.

GloMIQO: Global mixed-integer quadratic optimizer

TL;DR: GloMIQO is introduced, a numerical solver addressing mixed-integer quadratically-constrained quadratic programs to $${\varepsilon}$$-global optimality, and its algorithmic components are presented for reformulating user input, detecting special structure including convexity and edge-concavity, generating tight convex relaxations, and finding good feasible solutions.

Global optimization advances in Mixed-Integer Nonlinear Programming, MINLP, and Constrained Derivative-Free Optimization, CDFO

TL;DR: This work provides a comprehensive and detailed literature review in terms of significant theoretical contributions, algorithmic developments, software implementations and applications for both MINLP and CDFO, and shows their individual prerequisites, formulations and applicability.

Optimization of complex reactor networks—I. Isothermal operation

TL;DR: In this paper, the synthesis problem of complex nonisothermal reaction networks is addressed, where the authors focus on developing a superstructure of alternatives for the non-isothermal reactor system, and subsequently formulate and solve the problem according to the proposed general structure.
Journal ArticleDOI

Generalized modular representation framework for process synthesis

TL;DR: In this paper, a generalized modeling framework for process synthesis alternatives is proposed, based on fundamental mass/heat transfer principles, where synthesis alternatives are not postulated as process unit networks, but explored simultaneously without predefining synthesis schemes.

Generalized Benders decomposition

TL;DR: In this paper, the extremal value of the linear program as a function of the parameterizing vector and the set of values of the parametric vector for which the program is feasible were derived using linear programming duality theory.

On the development of a general algebraic modeling system in a strategic planning environment

TL;DR: This paper describes the resulting development of a General Algebraic Modeling System (GAMS), which employs a rigorous algebraic representation of data and equations, coupled with relational database-type facilities, and draws comparisons to other modeling systems designed for large-scale linear programming problems.
