TLDR
On the basis of external morphology and anatomy, 17 scpeies of the genusSilurus Linnaeus including a new species, S. torrentis from Thailand and Burma, are recognized as valid and an anatomical study of 12 species reveals the diagnostic feature ofthe genusParasilurus Bleeker to be invalid, and the genus is synonymized withSilurus.Abstract:
On the basis of external morphology and anatomy, 17 scpeies of the genusSilurus Linnaeus including a new species,S. torrentis from Thailand and Burma, are recognized as valid.S. bedfordi Regan is synonymized withS. asotus, andS. goae Haig is transferred to the genusOmpok. From an anatomical study of 12 species, the diagnostic feature of the genusParasilurus Bleeker is revealed to be invalid, and the genus is synonymized withSilurus. From the phylogenetic analysis, the genusSilurus is divided into two major species groups, thecochinchinensis group which is disributed mainly in Southeast Asia, and theglanis group which is further separated into three subgroups occurring separately in East Asia and Europe. The pattern of distribution and relationships between ontogeny and phytogeny in the genusSilurus are briefly discussed.read more

Checklist of catfishes, recent and fossil (Osteichthyes: Siluriformes), and catalogue of siluriform primary types
TL;DR: A checklist of Recent and fossil catfishes (Order Siluriformes) is presented, summarizing taxonomic literature published through 2005, and one new name is proposed herein: Clariallabes teugelsi, as a replacement for Clarias (Allabenchelys) dumerili longibarbis David & Poll, 1937.

A phylogenetic analysis of the major groups of catfishes (Teleostei: Siluriformes) using rag1 and rag2 nuclear gene sequences.
TL;DR: Higher-level relationships among catfishes were investigated by parsimony, maximum likelihood and Bayesian analyses of two nuclear genes across 110 catfish species representing 36 of 37 families and Conorhynchos, confirming monophyly of Siluriformes, of most siluriform families and of a number of multifamily groups.

Dactylogyridean monogeneans of the siluriform fishes of the Old World
TL;DR: It is proposed that the Ancylodiscoidinae be raised to family status within the order Dactylogyridea to accommodate these 17 `ancyrocephalid' genera from siluriforms, together with Malayanodiscoides and Notopterodiscoide from notopterids.

Phylogenetic relationships within the Eurasian catfish family Siluridae (Pisces: Siluriformes), with comments on generic validities and biogeography
TL;DR: This analysis revealed four additional putative synapomorphies of the Siluridae, pending further resolution of the family's outgroup relationships, which are based on 23 terminal groups and 63 morphological characters.

Morphological Description of the Cephalic Region of Bagrus Docmac, With a Reflection On Bagridae (Teleostei: Siluriformes) Autapomorphies
TL;DR: Bagridae autapomorphies are very likely related to the production of sound and to the reinforcement of the efficiency of mouth closure, and may explain the biological success of bagrids among Ancient World catfishes, and, particularly, on the Asiatic continent.
