The application of ASTER remote sensing data to porphyry copper and epithermal gold deposits

TLDR
In this paper, the performance characteristics of the Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer (ASTER) remote sensor, the standard data products, and applications of the most recently developed image processing methods applied to ASTER data as a tool for mapping hydrothermal alteration mineral zones associated with porphyry copper and epithermal gold mineralization and related host-rock lithology.

Lithological and alteration mineral mapping in poorly exposed lithologies using Landsat-8 and ASTER satellite data: North-eastern Graham Land, Antarctic Peninsula

TL;DR: In this article, a two-stage methodology was adopted to distinguish pixel and sub-pixel targets in the satellite images, where the first stage used Continuum Removal (CR) spectral mapping tool and Independent Components Analysis (ICA) technique were applied to Landsat-8 and ASTER spectral bands to map the pixels related to poorly exposed lithological units.
Journal ArticleDOI

Hydrothermal alteration mapping from Landsat-8 data, Sar Cheshmeh copper mining district, south-eastern Islamic Republic of Iran

TL;DR: In this article, the applicability of data from the recently launched Landsat-8 for mapping hydrothermal alteration areas and lithological units associated with porphyry copper exploration in arid and semi-arid regions was studied.

The Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer (ASTER) after fifteen years: Review of global products

TL;DR: Six examples of global products are described in this contribution: the ASTER Global Digital Elevation Model (GDEM), the most complete, highest resolution DEM available to all users; theASTER Emissivity Database (ASTER GED), a global 5-band emissivity map of the land surface; the ASTer Global Urban Area Map (AGURAM), a 15-m resolution database of over 3500 cities.

Automatic lineament extraction in a heavily vegetated region using Landsat Enhanced Thematic Mapper (ETM+) imagery

TL;DR: In this article, the authors examined the effects of noise levels to lineament extraction using a fully automatic approach, consisting of a combination of edge-line detection algorithms and ancillary information from a digitized topographic map and image classification.

Detection of hydrothermal alteration zones in a tropical region using satellite remote sensing data: Bau Goldfield, Sarawak, Malaysia

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated and demonstrated the detection of hydrothermal alteration zones and structural elements associated with intrusion-related gold mineralization using various types of remote sensing data in the Bau gold mining district in the State of Sarawak, East Malaysia on the island of Borneo.

The spectral image processing system (SIPS) interactive visualization and analysis of imaging spectrometer data

TL;DR: The Center for the Study of Earth from Space (CSES) at the University of Colorado, Boulder, has developed a prototype interactive software system called the Spectral Image Processing System (SIPS) using IDL (the Interactive Data Language) on UNIX-based workstations to develop operational techniques for quantitative analysis of imaging spectrometer data.

A transformation for ordering multispectral data in terms of image quality with implications for noise removal

TL;DR: In this paper, a transformation known as the maximum noise fraction (MNF) transformation is presented, which always produces new components ordered by image quality, and it can be shown that this transformation is equivalent to principal components transformations when the noise variance is the same in all bands and that it reduces to a multiple linear regression when noise is in one band only.

Porphyry Copper Systems

TL;DR: Porphyry Cu systems are the most widely distributed mineralization types at convergent plate boundaries, including porphyry deposits centered on intrusions; skarn, carbonate-replacement, and sediment-hosted Au deposits in increasingly peripheral locations; and superjacent high and intermediate-sulfidation epithermal deposits as mentioned in this paper.

The ASTER spectral library version 2.0

TL;DR: The Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission Reflection Radiometer (ASTER) on NASA's Terra platform has been widely used in geological and other science studies as mentioned in this paper, and a library of natural and man-made materials was compiled as the ASTER Spectral Library v1.2 and made available from http://speclib.nasa.gov.

High spectral resolution reflectance spectroscopy of minerals

TL;DR: In this article, the reflectance spectra of minerals are studied as a function of spectral resolution in the range from 0.2 to 3.0 microns, and selected absorption bands were studied at resolving powers as high as 2240.
