TLDR
In this paper, the authors relax the assumption that the cumulative distribution function of the demand is completely known and merely assume that the first two moments of the distribution function are known, allowing customers to balk when inventory level is low.
Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to study the classic newsboy model with more realistic assumptions. First, we allow customers to balk when inventory level is low. Secondly, we relax the assumption that the cumulative distribution function of the demand is completely known and merely assume that the first two moments of the distribution function are known.

The single-period (news-vendor) problem: literature review and suggestions for future research

TL;DR: In this article, a taxonomy of the single-period problem (SPP) literature is presented, and the contribution of the different SPP extensions are delineated and some future directions for research are discussed.

Regret in the Newsvendor Model with Partial Information

TL;DR: This paper derives the order quantities that minimize the newsvendor's maximum regret of not acting optimally, which can be extended to a variety of problems that require a robust but not conservative solution.

Managing a dual-channel supply chain under price and delivery-time dependent stochastic demand

TL;DR: This work analyzed both centralized and decentralized systems for unknown distribution function of the random variables through a distribution-free approach and also for known distribution function and examines the effect of delivery lead time and customers’ channel preference on the optimal operation.

Some stochastic inventory models with deterministic variable lead time

TL;DR: This paper determines optimal reduction in the procurement lead time duration for some stochastic inventory models, jointly with the optimal ordering decisions, and develops algorithms for solving these models.

The Distribution Free Newsboy Problem: Review and Extensions

TL;DR: In this article, the optimality of Scarf's ordering rule for the newsboy problem with only the mean and the variance of the demand are known is analyzed, and the analysis is extended to the fixed ordering cost case, where a fixed cost is charged for placing an order, and to the case of random yields.

Distribution Free Procedures for Some Inventory Models

TL;DR: In this article, the authors relax the assumption that the cumulative distribution function of the lead time demand is completely known and merely assume that the first two moments of F are known and finte.
