Nonequilibrium Magma Degassing: Results From Modeling of the ca. 1340 A.D. Eruption of Mono Craters, California

TL;DR: In this article, a numerical conduit model of nonequilibrium magma degassing is presented, and it is shown that CO2/H2O concentration ratios in pyroclastic obsidian from the ca. 1340 A.D. Mono Craters eruption may record none-ilibrium degassing during magma ascent.

Reassessment of the Raman CO 2 densimeter

TL;DR: In this article, the authors examine potential causes for variations in the various densimeters and show that these differences are mainly the result of using different Raman instruments and settings, different collection parameters, and different analytical methods.

Effect of iron and nanolites on Raman spectra of volcanic glasses: A reassessment of existing strategies to estimate the water content

TL;DR: In this article, the effect of iron content and iron nanolites on Raman spectra of hydrous geologically-relevant glasses was investigated using two spectrometers and the results showed that the area of the band at 3550 cm−1 linearly correlates with the sample water content regardless of chemical composition.

The effect of oxygen fugacity on the rheological evolution of crystallizing basaltic melts

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present the first rheological characterization of crystallizing lavas along natural cooling paths and deformation-rates and at varying f O 2, and find that crystallization at constant cooling-rates results in a quasi-exponential increase in the apparent viscosity of the magmatic suspensions until they achieve their rheologically cut off temperature (T cutoff ), where the melt effectively solidifies.

Models for the estimation of Fe3+/Fetot ratio in terrestrial and extraterrestrial alkali- and iron-rich silicate glasses using Raman spectroscopyk

TL;DR: In this article, the effect of iron oxidation state (Fe 3+ /Fe tot ) on the Raman spectra of basaltic and pantelleritic glasses has been investigated using remelted pantellerite from Pantelleria Island and synthetic iron-rich basaltitic glasses.

Thermodynamic Properties of Minerals and Related Substances at 298.15 K and 1 Bar (105 Pascals) Pressure and at Higher Temperatures

TL;DR: A report about values for the entropy, molar volume, and for the enthalpy and Gibbs energy of formation for the elements and minerals and substances at 298.15 K was given in this paper.

Viscosity of magmatic liquids: A model

TL;DR: In this paper, a model that predicts the non-Arrhenian Newtonian viscosity of silicate melts as a function of T and melt composition, including the rheologically important volatile constituents H2O and F, is presented.
