TLDR
In this article, it is shown that natural vibrations, localized around the inclusion, are possible in a system consisting of an infinite string on an elastic foundation-concentrated inertial inclusion which moves at a constant, subcritical velocity.

Paradox of a particle's trajectory moving on a string

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors considered the problem of string vibration under a moving mass and proposed a second-order matrix differential equation (SDE) to reduce the problem to a second order differential equation, which is characteristic of all features of the critical, subcritical and overcritical motion.
Journal ArticleDOI

Space–time approach to numerical analysis of a string with a moving mass

TL;DR: In this paper, the interaction of the moving mass/supporting structure is described in a local coordinate system of the space-time finite element domain, and the resulting characteristic matrices include inertia, Coriolis and centrifugal forces.
Journal ArticleDOI

The effective mass of a point mass moving along a string on a Winkler foundation

TL;DR: In this article, a simple asymptotic solution of the problem of the motion (without friction) of a point mass acted upon by a specified external force on a string on a Winkler foundation is obtained, taking into account the wave drag on the motion.
Journal ArticleDOI

A revisitation of the paradox of discontinuous trajectory for a mass particle moving on a taut string

TL;DR: In this article, a nonlinear extended regularized model of taut string carrying a moving point mass is proposed with the intent to contribute to the solution of the paradox of particle's discontinuous trajectory.
Journal ArticleDOI

Evolution of a trapped mode of oscillation in a continuous system with a concentrated inclusion of variable mass

TL;DR: In this article, the transverse oscillations of an infinite string on the Winkler foundation with a point inertial inclusion of variable mass were studied, where the mass of the string was assumed to be fixed.

Non-stationary problems in dynamics of a string on an elastic foundation subjected to a moving load

TL;DR: In this paper, the dynamics of an infinite string on an elastic foundation subjected to a moving load is investigated and the load is modelled by a moving concentrated force using both analytical and numerical methods.
Journal ArticleDOI

Nonlinear investigation of the possibility to exceed the critical speed by a load on a string

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated the possibility of overcoming the critical speed of a moving concentrated load on a string by taking into account the coupling between transversal and longitudinal waves and contact friction between the string and the load.
Journal ArticleDOI

Transient resonance of an ideal string under a load moving with varying speed

TL;DR: In this paper, the transverse velocity of an ideal string is obtained when the string experiences a point load moving with varying speed, and two cases are evaluated in which the load either accelerates or decelerates through the characteristic string speed.
