TLDR
The results demonstrate that the optimal frequencies for capacitance measurements are higher than previously believed and it is demonstrated that the capacitance noise at high frequencies can be reduced by compensating for the voltage drop of the sine wave across the series resistance.

Cochlear Outer Hair Cell Motility

TL;DR: The functional and structural properties of prestin are described and whether outer hair cell motility might account for sound amplification at all frequencies is also a critical question and is reviewed here.

Roles of Cholesterol in Vesicle Fusion and Motion

TL;DR: It is found that free cholesterol is able to directly trigger vesicle fusion, albeit with less potency and slower kinetics as compared to membrane depolarization stimulation, which underscores the versatile roles of cholesterol in facilitating exocytosis.

Myosin II Activation and Actin Reorganization Regulate the Mode of Quantal Exocytosis in Mouse Adrenal Chromaffin Cells

TL;DR: An essential role for activity-evoked cytoskeletal rearrangement and the action of myosin II in the regulation of catecholamine and neuropeptide exocytosis is demonstrated and represents an essential element of the sympathetic stress response.

Discrete changes of cell membrane capacitance observed under conditions of enhanced secretion in bovine adrenal chromaffin cells.

TL;DR: The size distribution of step-like capacitance changes is well compatible with the idea that steps of capacitance increase reflect individual events of exocytosis of chromaffin granules, whereas steps of the opposite polarity reflect the formation of vesicles or vacuoles by endocytotic processes.

Tight-Seal Whole-Cell Recording

TL;DR: It is the experience that this way of penetrating a cell inflicts much less damage on the cell than the standard microelectrode impalement.
Journal ArticleDOI

Rates of diffusional exchange between small cells and a measuring patch pipette.

TL;DR: Fluorescent compounds and specific ion currents were used to study the kinetics of the diffusional exchange between small cells and patch pipettes in the tight seal whole cell configuration of the patch clamp technique and diffusion time constants were linearly related to the access resistance.
Journal ArticleDOI

Patch-clamp techniques for time-resolved capacitance measurements in single cells.

TL;DR: Two methods are described for estimation of passive cell parameters such as membrane capacitance, membrane conductance and access resistance in tight-seal whole cell recording by using a time domain technique and a lock-in amplifier.
