We review double field theory (DFT) with emphasis on the doubled spacetime and its generalized coordinate transformations, which unify diffeomorphisms and b-field gauge transformations. We illustrate how the composition of generalized coordinate transformations fails to associate. Moreover, in dimensional reduction, the O(d,d) T-duality transformations of fields can be obtained as generalized diffeomorphisms. Restricted to a half-dimensional subspace, DFT includes ‘generalized geometry’, but is more general in that local patches of the doubled space may be glued together with generalized coordinate transformations. Indeed, we show that for certain T-fold backgrounds with nongeometric fluxes, there are generalized coordinate transformations that induce, as gauge symmetries of DFT, the requisite O(d,d;Z) monodromy transformations. Finally we review recent results on the α ′ extension of DFT which, reduced to the half-dimensional subspace, yields intriguing modifications of the basic structures of generalized geometry.read more

TL;DR: In this article, the Kaluza-Klein vector field acts as a gauge field for the E-bracket, requiring the presence of 2-forms akin to the tensor hierarchy of gauged supergravity.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors developed exceptional field theory for E8p8q, defined on a (3+248)-dimensional gener- alized spacetime with extended coordinates in the adjoint representation of E8 p8q. The theory consistently comprises components of the dual graviton encoded in the 248 bein.

Entanglement, holography and causal diamonds
TL;DR: In this article, the degrees of freedom in a d-dimensional CFT can be reorganized in an insightful way by studying observables on the moduli space of causal diamonds (or equivalently, the space of pairs of timelike separated points).

Superspace duality in low-energy superstrings
TL;DR: This work extends spacetime duality to superspace, including fermions in the low-energy limits of superstrings, and the tangent space is a curved, extended superspace based on an enlarged coordinate space where the vanishing of the d'Alembertian is as fundamental as the disappearing of the curl of a gradient.

A geometry for non-geometric string backgrounds
TL;DR: In this article, a T-fold background with a local $n$-torus fibration and T-duality transition functions in O(n,n:\Z) space is formulated in an enlarged space with a $T^{2n}$ fibration which is geometric, with spacetime emerging locally from a choice of a Ωn$ submanifold of each fiber, so that it is embedded in the enlarged space.

Massive N=2a Supergravity in Ten-Dimensions
TL;DR: In this paper, a new version of the non-chiral N = 2a supergravity in ten dimensions is obtained, in which the two-index tensor field of the theory "eats" the single vector field and acquires a mass in a Higgs-type mechanism.

Closed string field theory: Quantum action and the Batalin-Vilkovisky master equation
TL;DR: The complete quantum theory of covariant closed strings was constructed in detail in this article, where the nonpolynomial action is defined by elementary vertices satisfying recursion relations that give rise to Jacobi-like identities for an infinite chain of string field products.

Generalized metric formulation of double field theory
TL;DR: The generalized metric as discussed by the authors is a covariant symmetric matrix constructed from the metric and two-form gauge field and arises in generalized geometry and can be viewed as a metric on the doubled spacetime and use it to give a simple formulation with manifest T-duality of the double field theory that describes the massless sector of closed strings.
