High humidity leads to loss of infectious influenza virus from simulated coughs.
John D. Noti,Francoise M. Blachere,Cynthia M. McMillen,Cynthia M. McMillen,William G. Lindsley,Michael L. Kashon,Denzil R. Slaughter,Donald H. Beezhold +7 more
TL;DR: At low relative humidity, influenza retains maximal infectivity and inactivation of the virus at higher relative humidity occurs rapidly after coughing, although virus carried on aerosol particles <4 µM have the potential for remaining suspended in air currents longer and traveling further distances than those on larger particles, their rapid inactivation at high humidity tempers this concern.
Journal ArticleDOI
Preventing cold-related morbidity and mortality in a changing climate.
Kathryn C. Conlon,Nicholas B. Rajkovich,Jalonne L. White-Newsome,Larissa Larsen,Marie S. O'Neill +4 more
TL;DR: A range of adaptation strategies that can be implemented at the individual, building, and neighborhood level to protect vulnerable populations from cold-related morbidity and mortality are presented.
Journal ArticleDOI
A framework for quantifying the impact of occupant behavior on energy savings of energy conservation measures
Kaiyu Sun,Tianzhen Hong +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a framework for quantifying the impact of occupant behaviors on energy conservation measures (ECM) energy savings using building performance simulation and a pilot study is performed in a real building to demonstrate the application of the framework.
Journal ArticleDOI
Thermal comfort and behavioural strategies in office buildings located in a hot-arid climate
K. Cena,Richard de Dear +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the effects of indoor climates on thermal perceptions and adaptive behavior of office workers during a large field study in Kalgoorlie-Boulder, located in a hot-arid region of Western Australia, are discussed.
Journal ArticleDOI
ANN-based thermal control models for residential buildings
Jin Woo Moon,Jong-Jin Kim +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, an Artificial Neural Network (ANN)-based advanced thermal control method for creating more comfortable thermal environments in residential buildings was developed, which consisted of a thermal control logic framework with four thermal control logics, including two predictive and adaptive logics using ANN models, and a system hardware framework.
