A new scheme for imposing a minimum length scale in topology optimization

TL;DR: A new scheme for imposing a minimum length scale in topology optimization is presented, formulated as one constraint that is computationally cheap and for which sensitivities are also cheap to compute, and produces compliant mechanisms with distributed flexibility.

Large-scale topology optimization in 3D using parallel computing

TL;DR: This work considers large-scale topology optimization of elastic continua in 3D using the regularized intermediate density control introduced in [1] using the nested approach, i.e., equilibrium is solved at each iteration.

Topology Optimization for Architected Materials Design

TL;DR: In this article, the design problem is posed and solved formally as an optimization problem with unit cell and upscaling mechanics embedded within this formulation, and several fundamental findings related to optimization of elastic, thermal, and fluidic properties in periodic materials are discussed.

Generating optimal topologies in structural design using a homogenization method

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a methodology for optimal shape design based on homogenization, which is related to modern production techniques and consists of computing the optimal distribution in space of an anisotropic material that is constructed by introducing an infimum of periodically distributed small holes in a given homogeneous, i.i.

Material interpolation schemes in topology optimization

TL;DR: In this article, the authors analyze and compare the various approaches to this concept in the light of variational bounds on effective properties of composite materials, and derive simple necessary conditions for the possible realization of grey-scale via composites, leading to a physical interpretation of all feasible designs as well as the optimal design.
