100 lat optyki na Uniwersytecie Warszawskim (1921–2021)

Józef Szudy
Abstract: This publication is related to the centenary of physics at the University of Warsaw. It describes the history of optics at the university since 1921, when Stefan Pieńkowski founded the Division of Physics at 69 Hoża Street in Warsaw. The author reports on the rapid development of research and significant discoveries in this field in the interwar period, when the Division of Physics earned a reputation as a world centre for molecular luminescence and atomic spectroscopy, attracting scientists from all over the world to Warsaw. Rebuilt after World War II, it got a new image when lasers were used for studies on the structure of atoms and molecules as well as atomic collisions. Today, it has become an internationally recognised modern centre for optical physics, including nonlinear optics, Fourier optics, plasmonics and quantum technologies.

Alfred Kastler's inspiration of the optical pumping studies in Poland

T. Dohnalik, +1 more
- 01 Jan 1985 -
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors reviewed the optical pumping activity in Poland with particular emphasis on Professor Kastler's inspiration in its development, focusing on relaxation, modulation effects, level crossing and anticrossing effects, dressed atom model and forward scattering of resonance radiation.

Spin-Exchange Shift and Narrowing of Magnetic Resonance Lines in Optically Pumped Alkali Vapors

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors observed very narrow magnetic resonance lines in alkali vapors with atomic densities much greater than usual and with cell dimensions much smaller than usual, and showed that the spin-exchange broadening vanishes in the high-density limit.

Transverse Relaxation of Optically Pumped Cesium Atoms

TL;DR: In this article, the authors measured the transverse relaxation time of optically pumped cesium atoms in the ground state by using the technique of multiple spin echo and cross-beam.
