Turbulent advances of a breaking bore: preliminary physical experiments

TLDR
In this paper, the authors studied the breaking bore roller toe in a large canal with a focus on breaking bearing roller propagation and found that the toe perimeter shape fluctuated rapidly with transverse distance and time, although in a quasi-two-dimensional manner.

On optical flow techniques applied to breaking surges

TL;DR: In this article, three optical flow techniques (Lucas-Kanade, Horn-Schunck and Farnback) were applied to the air-water region and the results indicated that the Farnback technique provided most accurate results, although some misleading results could be obtained near the airwater boundaries of the roller.

Unsteady Turbulence during the Upstream Propagation of Undular and Breaking Tidal Bores: an Experimental Investigation

Real-time characteristics of tidal bore propagation in the Qiantang River Estuary, China, recorded by marine radar

TL;DR: In this paper, a template matching method using a cross-correlation algorithm was explored to estimate the evolution and celerity of a tidal bore with medium-resolution marine radar images, and the experimental results showed that the radar-derived celerity and calculated height of the tidal bore were consistent with visual observations in this estuarine zone.

Air-water interaction and characteristics in breaking bores

TL;DR: In this paper, an analysis of the air-water flow in a breaking bore propagating in a large-size channel was conducted using an array of three dual-tip phase detection probes and photographic camera.

Strong free-surface turbulence in breaking bores: a physical study on the free-surface dynamics and air–water interfacial features

TL;DR: In this paper, a detailed analysis of the free-surface dynamics of a breaking roller's free surface was performed using both top and side views of the roller and optical flow data.

Open channel flow

TL;DR: The importance of basic principles is recognized in this article in two ways : first, by devoting the opening chapters to a fairly leisurely discussion of introductory principles, including a recapitulation of the underlying arguments derived from the parent subject of fluid mechanics; and second, by takingnevery opportunity in the later chapters to refer back to this earlier material in order to clarify particular applications as they arise.

Waves in fluids

TL;DR: One-dimensional waves in fluids as discussed by the authors were used to describe sound waves and water waves in the literature, as well as the internal wave and the water wave in fluids, and they can be classified into three classes: sound wave, water wave, and internal wave.

Streamwise vortex structure in plane mixing layers

TL;DR: In this paper, it is shown that superimposed on the primary, spanwise vortex structure there is a secondary, steam wise vortex structure, and the spatial organization of the secondary structure produces a well-defined spanwise entrainment pattern in which fluid from each stream is preferentially entrained at different spanwise locations.

New York, USA

TL;DR: New York City, one of the most populous and ethnically diverse cities in the world, has responded to a variety of enviornmental challenges in its history, including climate change as discussed by the authors.
