TLDR
For systems with negligible self-gravity, the bound follows from application of the second law of thermodynamics to a gedanken experiment involving a black hole as discussed by the authors, and it is shown that black holes have the maximum entropy for given mass and size which is allowed by quantum theory and general relativity.
Abstract
We present evidence for the existence of a universal upper bound of magnitude $\frac{2\ensuremath{\pi}R}{\ensuremath{\hbar}c}$ to the entropy-to-energy ratio $\frac{S}{E}$ of an arbitrary system of effective radius $R$. For systems with negligible self-gravity, the bound follows from application of the second law of thermodynamics to a gedanken experiment involving a black hole. Direct statistical arguments are also discussed. A microcanonical approach of Gibbons illustrates for simple systems (gravitating and not) the reason behind the bound, and the connection of $R$ with the longest dimension of the system. A more general approach establishes the bound for a relativistic field system contained in a cavity of arbitrary shape, or in a closed universe. Black holes also comply with the bound; in fact they actually attain it. Thus, as long suspected, black holes have the maximum entropy for given mass and size which is allowed by quantum theory and general relativity.

Physical Aspects of Quasi-Local Black Hole Horizons

TL;DR: In this article, the authors discuss some of the physical aspects expected to be associated with black holes, such as Hawking radiation, horizon entropy and cosmic censorship, and focus on whether these properties are more naturally associated to causally defined horizons or quasi-local horizons.

Viscosity bound versus the universal relaxation bound

TL;DR: In this paper, it was shown that the proposed violations of the KSS bound are strongly constrained by Bekenstein's generalized second law (GSL) of thermodynamics, and that the genuine physical bound on the relaxation properties of physically consistent fluids is ℑ ω (k > 2 π T ) > πT, where ω and k are respectively the proper frequency and the wavenumber of a perturbation mode in the fluid.

Limit Energy Theorem for Gas Flow Systems

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a review of research dealing with the limit energy theorem for fast gas flow systems (FGFSs) where no mechanical work is performed, and the analysis shows that these flow systems do not belong to the Carnot class.

Bounding the Minimum Time of a Quantum Measurement

TL;DR: In this paper , the authors derived lower bounds on the time needed for a measurement to occur in a quantum system, which scales proportionally to the change in entropy of the measured system, and inversely proportional to the number of possible measurement outcomes and the interaction strength.
