In this paper, Cimento revisited some variational principles for the fundamental equations of a regular region of piezoelectric, thermopiez-olectric and hygrothermopiezoellectric materials in the elastic range.Abstract:
In this paper some variational principles are revisited for the fundamental equations of a regular region of piezoelectric, thermopiezoelectric, and hygrothermopiezoelectric (but non-stochastic, non-local, and non-relativistic) materials in the elastic range. Certain oversights, and especially, those involving the so-called Hu-Washizu variational principle of piezoelectricity that was first formulated in a paper (“Variational Principles in Piezoelectricity,” Lettere Al Nuovo Cimento, vol. 7, 449–454, 1973) are clarified within the “ISI-Web of Science” publications in the open literature. Similar variational principles of piezoelectricity are cited.read more

About heat waves
TL;DR: In this article, the Belgian Pilots' Guild raised the question of what effect exposure to radar radiation might have on the human body and reported that in 25 years of experience with radar, there were no known incidents of pilots being affected by radar waves.

Variational Principles in Mechanics
TL;DR: In this article, the authors define the principle of virtual work, which is a departure from other minimizing principles in that it incorporated stationarity and local stationarity in its formulation, and it is used to characterize static equilibrium through requiring that the work done by the external forces during a small displacement from equilibrium should vanish.

Review: A review of active structural control: challenges for engineering informatics
TL;DR: An active structure is an engineering structure containing sensors and actuators that, when active, modify the response of the structure to its environment as discussed by the authors, and it is a type of structural control that can be used in extreme environments (space, undersea, polar), contaminated contexts (nuclear, chemical, biological).

Incremental variational principles and finite element models for nonlinear problems
G. Horrigmoe,P. G. Bergan +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the classical variational principles are formulated for nonlinear problems by considering incremental deformations of a continuum and associated finite element models are derived, adopting the terminology introduced by Pian for classification of linear finite elements models.

Theory of vibrations of coated, thermopiezoelectric laminae
TL;DR: In this paper, a theory for dynamic problems of coated laminae in which there is coupling between mechanical and electrical as well as thermal fields is presented, and the uniqueness of the governing equations is examined, and a theorem which includes the conditions sufficient for the uniqueness is given.

Hamilton Principle and Generalized Variational Principles of Linear Thermopiezoelectricity
TL;DR: In this paper, a family of variational principles for thermopiezoelectricity, including a Hamilton principle and a minimum complementary energy principle, was established via the semi-inverse method.
