In this paper, Cimento revisited some variational principles for the fundamental equations of a regular region of piezoelectric, thermopiez-olectric and hygrothermopiezoellectric materials in the elastic range.
Abstract
In this paper some variational principles are revisited for the fundamental equations of a regular region of piezoelectric, thermopiezoelectric, and hygrothermopiezoelectric (but non-stochastic, non-local, and non-relativistic) materials in the elastic range. Certain oversights, and especially, those involving the so-called Hu-Washizu variational principle of piezoelectricity that was first formulated in a paper (“Variational Principles in Piezoelectricity,” Lettere Al Nuovo Cimento, vol. 7, 449–454, 1973) are clarified within the “ISI-Web of Science” publications in the open literature. Similar variational principles of piezoelectricity are cited.

About heat waves

M Barrett
TL;DR: In this article, the Belgian Pilots' Guild raised the question of what effect exposure to radar radiation might have on the human body and reported that in 25 years of experience with radar, there were no known incidents of pilots being affected by radar waves.

Variational Principles in Mechanics

TL;DR: In this article, the authors define the principle of virtual work, which is a departure from other minimizing principles in that it incorporated stationarity and local stationarity in its formulation, and it is used to characterize static equilibrium through requiring that the work done by the external forces during a small displacement from equilibrium should vanish.

Review: A review of active structural control: challenges for engineering informatics

TL;DR: An active structure is an engineering structure containing sensors and actuators that, when active, modify the response of the structure to its environment as discussed by the authors, and it is a type of structural control that can be used in extreme environments (space, undersea, polar), contaminated contexts (nuclear, chemical, biological).

The elastic dielectric.

TL;DR: Slepian used an operational "definition" of stress and concluded that the compensating mechanical forces which must be introduced operationally are not derivable from a tensor.

Hemivariational inequality for a frictional contact problem inelasto-piezoelectricity

TL;DR: In this paper, a class of inequality problems for static frictional contact between a piezoelastic body and a foundation is studied, where the constitutive inequality law is assumed to be electrostatic and involves a nonlinear elasticity operator.

Electrostatic interactions and the piezoelectric equations

TL;DR: In this article, the authors considered the case of a nonlinear interaction of the electric field with a deformable insulator, and they proposed the linear electroelastic equations for small dynamic fields, superposed on a static bias obtained from the nonlinear system.

New Variational-Lagrangian Irreversible Thermodynamics with Application to Viscous Flow, Reaction–Diffusion, and Solid Mechanics

TL;DR: In this paper, a variational-Lagrangian irreversible thermodynamics with application to viscous flow, reaction-diffusion, and solid mechanics is presented, which is based on a principle of virtual dissipation.

Symplectic model for piezoelectric wedges and its application in analysis of electroelastic singularities

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors derived the order of singularity near the apex of a multi-dissimilar piezoelectric wedge under antiplane deformation using a modified Hellinger-Reissner generalized variational principle or a differential equation approach.

An Extension of Reissner Mixed Variational Theorem to Piezoelectric Laminates

TL;DR: In this article, a partially mixed formulation for multilayered structures embedding piezoelectric layers is presented, where the constitutive equations for the coupled linear electromechanical behavior associated to the partially mixed variational statement are derived from a modified internal energy function by means of partial Legendre transformations.
