Abstract
A variational algorithm has been developed to retrieve atmospheric humidity profiles from satellite observed radiances from the microwave sounder SAPHIR aboard Megha-Tropiques. In order to speed up the retrieval process, an ANN based fast forward model for simulating the upwelling radiances, corresponding to 6 channels in SAPHIR has been constructed this was found to be very efficient and accurate. The minimization of the cost function in 1-Dimensional Variaional framework was accomplished using the Levenberg-Marquardt algorithm. The retrieved profiles were compared with SAPHIR Level 2 data obtained from MOSDAC, Indian Meteorological Department, India. A good agreement was observed between the two.

A Description of the Advanced Research WRF Version 2

TL;DR: The Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model as mentioned in this paper was developed as a collaborative effort among the NCAR Mesoscale and Microscale Meteorology (MMM) Division, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) and Forecast System Laboratory (FSL), the Department of Defense's Air Force Weather Agency (AFWA) and Naval Research Laboratory (NRL), the Center for Analysis and Prediction of Storms (CAPS) at the University of Oklahoma, and the Federal Aviation Administration (F

A new polarized atmospheric radiative transfer model

TL;DR: In this article, a plane-parallel polarized radiative transfer model was used to compute the radiance exiting a vertically inhomogeneous atmosphere containing randomly-oriented particles, where both solar and thermal sources of radiation were considered.

A Multipurpose Radar Simulation Package: QuickBeam

TL;DR: QuickBeam is a user-friendly radar simulation package that converts modeled clouds to radar returns that might be viewed by a radar system on a satellite passing over the model domain.

An Integrated Approach toward Retrieving Physically Consistent Profiles of Temperature, Humidity, and Cloud Liquid Water

TL;DR: In this article, a method is presented for deriving physically consistent profiles of temperature, humidity, and cloud liquid water content using a combination of ground-based multichannel microwave radiometer, a cloud radar, a lidar-ceilometer, the nearest operational radiosonde measurement, and ground level measurements of standard meteorological properties with statistics derived from results of a microphysical cloud model.

Thermodynamic Atmospheric Profiling During the 2010 Winter Olympics Using Ground-Based Microwave Radiometry

TL;DR: The 1-DVAR technique is applied here to observations from a commercially available microwave radiometer deployed at Whistler, British Columbia, which was operated by Environment Canada to support nowcasting and short-term weather forecasting during the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.
