Wind response spectrum
TLDR

This paper formulates a theoretically consistent definition of the wind response spectrum based upon the equivalent wind spectrum technique, a calculation procedure by means of which wind is schematized as a stochastic stationary Gaussian process characterized by a mean velocity profile on which an equivalent turbulent fluctuation, perfectly coherent in space, is superimposed. The method presented herein allows the evaluation of the dynamic along‐wind respohse of structures, as well as of the structural behavior to the seismic ground motion, by the well‐known response spectrum technique. This procedure, parallelly applied to wind and earthquake actions, reveals significant conceptual and formal analogies, leading to results characterized by the same order of approximation.read more

Effective static load distributions in wind engineering
TL;DR: In this article, the derivations of expressions for effective static wind load distributions, for all possible combinations of mean, background and resonant response, are given, considering structures for which the response to wind can be considered to be quasi-static.

Forecast models for damping and vibration periods of buildings
TL;DR: In this article, the building's dynamic parameters (vibration periods, damping) are examined in three sequential phases: (a) the study of physical-theoretical aspects and of the existing forecast models; (b) the collection of a broad experimental data base; (c) the definition of new simple forecast models.

Thunderstorm response spectrum technique: Theory and applications
TL;DR: In this paper, the structural response to transient phenomena, most notably to earthquakes, is traditionally evaluated by the response spectrum technique, and a new method is formulated that generalizes the old approach from earthquakes to thunderstorms.

A replacement for the srss method in seismic analysis
TL;DR: In this article, a complete quadratic combination (CQC) method is proposed to reduce errors in modal combination in all examples studied, and it is recommended that the new approach be used as a replacement for the SRSS method in all response spectrum calculations.

A mechanical analyzer for the prediction of earthquake stresses
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors used the spectrum of an earthquake to evaluate the earthquake stresses in a complex structure, such as a multistory building with an elastic first story, and showed how the spectrum can be used for the evaluation of earthquake stresses.
