Abstract
X-ray dichroism is observed at the L absorption edges of Pt in K2PtCl4, and the anomalous scattering tensor for Pt in this square-planar complex is measured in experiments with linearly polarized synchrotron radiation. For special azimuthal settings the diffraction intensities of some reflections depend on only one or the other of the principal values of the tensor. The polarization anisotropy, which is as much as 10 electrons atom-1 for f”, is the largest yet reported for anomalous scattering. These phenomena offer a new way to determine diffraction phases, but add complications for previous methods using multiple wavelengths.

Angular dependence of X-ray absorption spectra

TL;DR: In this article, a detailed account of the dependence of X-ray absorption spectra (XAS) on polarisation and light beam directions is given, using a spherical tensor expansion of the absorption cross section.

Polarization anisotropy of X-ray atomic factors and `forbidden' resonant reflections

TL;DR: Symmetry and physical aspects of 'forbidden' reflections excited by a local polarization anisotropy of the X-ray susceptibility are surveyed and the local ;chirality' of atoms in centrosymmetric crystals is accessible.

Molecular Motion in Crystalline Naphthalene: Analysis of Multi-Temperature X-Ray and Neutron Diffraction Data

TL;DR: It is shown that a considerable improvement occurs by representing the internal modes by a single second-rank tensor and that a further improvement follows by including a Grüneisen parameter to account for volume thermal expansion.

Probing outer-sphere adsorption of aqueous metal complexes at the oxide-water interface with resonant anomalous x-ray reflectivity.

TL;DR: The derived Pt geometric subprofile shows two discrete "outer-sphere" adsorbed layers, and the interface-specific x-ray absorption edge profile exhibits a significant white-line enhancement compared to the bulk-solution species.

Resonant x-ray scattering in manganites: study of the orbital degree of freedom

TL;DR: In this article, a detailed review of the resonant x-ray scattering (RXS) experiments applied to the orbital-ordered manganites and other correlated electron systems is presented.
