TL;DR: In this paper, a new technique is described to measure temporal periodic fluctuations in the free-carrier density of s ilicon, based on the electronic dependence of the elastic constants, and involves the measurement of the perturbation in phase of an acoustic wave propagating through a region of modulated carrier density.
Abstract: A new technique is described to measure temporal periodic fluctuations in the free-carrier density of s ilicon. It is based on the electronic dependence of the elastic constants, and involves the measurement of the perturbation in phase of an acoustic wave propagating through a region of modulated carrier density. An experlment is described in which the bulk lifetime of photogenerated carriers is determined using this technique. A theory is developed to predict the acoustic phase perturbation, and is found to agree well with experiment.

01 Jul 2017TL;DR: In this article, the results of recent and new studies on topics related to backward acoustic waves of pure-shear type and Lamb type in piezoelectric, crystal, and isotropic plates with free and liquid-loaded surfaces are given.
Abstract: An overview is given of the results of recent and new studies by the authors of this work on topics related to backward acoustic waves of pure-shear type and Lamb type in piezoelectric, crystal, and isotropic plates with free and liquid-loaded surfaces. Various physical mechanisms giving rise to such waves are revealed and quantitatively described by the use of asymptotic expansion of the secular equations and the perturbation theory. The peculiarities of properties of leaky backward waves are considered. The possible applications of backward waves in microelectronic devices (such as sensors et al.) are discussed.

Abstract: Acoustic wave devices are often used in radiofrequency and microwave circuits because of their very small size and the performance that they offer. In this article, we review the basic theory of acoustic wave propagation in crystals. We describe some of the implementations of acoustic wave devices and show how they can be employed in microwave systems. We then present some of the models that are commonly used in the design of acoustic wave devices.
