TL;DR: The further use of the systems approach for developmental problems is discussed, and the need is seen not only for the adaptation of techniques but also for the development of new and appropriate approaches.
Abstract: Aided by a growing realization of the complexity of the problems involved and stimulated, no doubt, by the spectacular successes of the systems approach in such areas as the space and defense programs, there has been in recent years an increasing interest in the utilization of the systems approach for developmental problems. A survey of the views and activities of some U.N. bodies regarding the application of systems methodologies in their fields of interest is given. The further use of the systems approach for developmental problems is discussed, and the need is seen not only for the adaptation of techniques but also for the development of new and appropriate approaches. The role which the professional community and others can play in stimulating further interest is suggested.

TL;DR: The contract system has been successfully employed in recent years as a method of conducting individual academic study as mentioned in this paper, and an adaptation of this system may be used to provide an innovative approach not only to counseling but also to other segments of the school guidance program.
Abstract: The contract system has been successfully employed in recent years as a method of conducting individual academic study. The purpose of this article is to demonstrate how an adaptation of this system may be used to provide an innovative approach not only to counseling but also to other segments of the school guidance program. Besides providing a logical, self-directed approach to problem solving, the contract system forces the student to assume responsibility for his own behavior. The rewards and punishments inherent in this system are only those the individual metes out to himself.

TL;DR: A technique for digital generation of diverse acoustic waveforms is described, embodied as a complete computer program coded in Fortran and its ease of adaptation for use on any computer.
Abstract: A technique for digital generation of diverse acoustic waveforms is described. The method is embodied as a complete computer program coded in Fortran. We discuss the operation, implementation, and use of the program and its ease of adaptation for use on any computer.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: A rational response to the problems of providing computerized information services in the medium-to-large university is portrayed, with emphasis on the emerging need for competent professional middlemen on the campus.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: A method to obtain discrete dynamic adaptation algorithms for the estimation of the trajectory of the movement of the minimum loss function point is given, which characterizes the quality of the adaptive system.

TL;DR: A map, drawing or chart was part of the material being photographed, and the photographer followed a definite method in "sectioning" the material as mentioned in this paper, which was referred to as map drawing.
Abstract: 3. When a map, drawing or chart, etc., was part of the material being photographed the photographer followed a definite method in "sectioning" the material. It is customary to begin photoing at the upper left hand corner of a large sheet and to continue photoing from left to right in equal sections with a small overlap. If necessary, sectioning is continued again — beginning below the first row and continuing on until complete.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this article, a simplified model is proposed to view stability and adaptability as separate but interrelated dimensions of organizational systems and suggest some of the consequences for the system with different combinations of the two variables.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this article, it has been shown that the benefits reflect themselves in the adaptation of the process to automation, and thus to economy in coating coupled with the achievement of highly desirable coating properties.
Abstract: Scarcely a decade has passed since the paint industry embraced the concept of electrocoating in its modern sense Its acceptance has been a gratifying one simply because it has been possible to translate this highly advanced scientific process into clearly demonstrated practical benefits These benefits reflect themselves in the adaptation of the process to automation, and thus to economy in coating coupled with the achievement of highly desirable coating properties

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: Two approaches to the adaptive control problem as well as two types of adaptation algorithms, i.e. parametric and non-parametric are dealt with.
