TL;DR: In this article, a solar powered aeration system that incorporates a battery was proposed for improvement of water bodies for use in aquaculture systems, reservoirs, water storage tanks, fish tanks, artificial ponds and lakes.
Abstract: The present invention is a solar powered aeration system that incorporates a battery. The device can be used for improvement of water bodies for use in aquaculture systems, reservoirs, water storage tanks, fish tanks, artificial ponds and lakes, and the like. The device does not require connection to the electrical power grid and may be used in any location. Further, the device can be used during periods of low oxygen content, which is typically the period of day just before sunrise. Additionally, the device uses a laminar column of water to enhance circulation of the water body. Increased efficiency can be obtained by matching the diffuser to the pump size, which is important in solar powered applications.

Abstract: A diffuser master is provided which is manufactured mechanically instead of holographically. The master can be made from a suitable substrate including relatively hard materials such as plastic, glass or metal. A substrate having a first side is worked to form a diffuser surface relief structure thereon. The substrate can be buffed using a buffing agent of a selected grit in order to form surface scratches in the first side of the substrate. The substrate can also be blasted with shot particles in order to form indentations and depressions in the first side. The substrate can alternatively be acid or alkali etched in order to form surface irregularities in the first side. The scratches, depressions or irregularities can be formed in order to create a desired surface relief and hence desired diffuser output characteristics.

TL;DR: In this article, the effect of microbubbles on the ozonation rate of a mixture of benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes was examined.
Abstract: This work investigates ozonation of a mixture of benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes (BTEX) dissolved in aqueous solutions having salt concentrations ranging from 0 to 2 M. The effect of microbubbles on the ozonation rate is examined. Microbubbles are formed either by an electrostatic spraying method or by a small-pore bubble diffuser. Although electrostatic spraying is effective for BTEX removal in low-conductivity solutions, results indicate it is not suitable for microbubble formation in high-ionic-strength solutions due to high electric current. In contrast, the bubble-diffuser method proved to be very effective in producing small bubbles in high-ionic-strength solutions. The production of small bubbles makes it possible to mitigate the mass transfer limitation, which has been shown to be the primary restriction in ozonation systems. When a bubble diffuser is employed, the removal rate of BTEX from simulated seawater is approximately twice that obtained with a simple capillary tube.

TL;DR: A compost tea system uses a water-holding tank for containing process water, and the liquid is sparged with fine bubbles to thoroughly agitate the liquid, extract nutrients and microorganisms from the compost, and to ensure a high concentration of dissolved oxygen in the liquid.
Abstract: A compost tea system uses a water-holding tank for containing process water. Compost is immersed into the water in the tank in baskets defining a filter media. Air is pumped into membrane disk diffuser modules in the tank and the liquid is sparged with fine bubbles to thoroughly agitate the liquid, extract nutrients and microorganisms from the compost, and to ensure a high concentration of dissolved oxygen in the liquid. The high level of oxygen selects for desired aerobic organisms to produce a rich compost tea. The finished tea is drained out of the tank and the tank and its components are easily cleaned and sanitized.

TL;DR: In this article, a method for treating livestock wastewater includes directing screened wastewater to a hydrocyclone/separation tank system, where the bubble-particle aggregates are separated as they rise and accumulate on a free liquid surface of the tank.
Abstract: A method for treating livestock wastewater includes directing screened wastewater to a hydrocyclone/separation tank system. The hydrocyclone directs the wastewater stream in a generally helical fashion to create bubble-particle aggregates. Activating chemicals can be added to the wastewater upstream of the hydrocyclone or within the hydrocyclone itself. The wastewater is channeled from an outlet of the hydrocyclone through a diffuser to a separation tank, where the bubble-particle aggregates are separated as they rise and accumulate on a free liquid surface of the tank. The treated wastewater settles below the bubble-particle aggregate accumulation and is transferred to a reservoir for later use as irrigation water or barn wash water. Salts may also be removed from the wastewater by filtering the wastewater through salt-removing filters before the wastewater is transferred to the reservoir.

TL;DR: In this article, a diffuser is modified by creating through-holes in its diffusive surface that allow sound to travel through the diffuser to the rear of it where an absorptive material is provided.
Abstract: An existing diffuser is modified by creating through-holes in its diffusive surface that allow sound to travel through the diffuser to the rear of it where an absorptive material is provided. The absorptive material may be made of any suitable material such as fiber glass, foam or mineral wool. The cut-off frequency between diffusion and absorption may be “tuned” or adjusted by varying the total volume of holes made within the diffuser, and by determining the particular cavities (and their depths) that are chosen to be modified through the provision of holes. In each embodiment of the present invention, holes or slots are formed in a diffusive surface and such holes or slots form one component of a resonant absorber. The perforations can be any shape or size and by varying the perforation and cavity size, the inventive devices may be “tuned” to begin to absorb sound below a desired chosen frequency.
