Abstract: The efficiency of wet flue gas desulfurization (WFGD) used in thermal power plants that burn high-sulfur coal can be improved by adopting dual-loop spray tower (DLST). In this paper, the process of gas–liquid flow, mass transfer and chemical reaction in the DLST were fully investigated through a pilot-scale DLST and the corresponding numerical model. The numerical model was verified based on the experiment and applied to predict a DLST of 200 MW coal-fired unit. Investigation results show that higher the inlet SO2 concentration, more significant advantage on improving the desulfurization efficiency for DLST. The mass transfer resistance of liquid-film is still the main effect of SO2 absorption for the upper and lower loops in DLST. The ratios of the gas-film resistance to liquid-film resistance in the upper and lower loops are 0.65 and 0.35, respectively. The designed size of the bowl separator has a significant effect on the system resistance loss. The minimum ratio between the diameter of the bowl and the diameter of the desulfurization tower to avoid “flooding” phenomenon above the bowl separator is about 0.7. Furtherly, the lowest system operating resistance loss can be obtained when the ratio is about 0.82. The simulation results of the desulfurization efficiency and system resistance loss agree well with the test data.

Abstract: This paper presents an analysis of the changes in interfacial surface and the size of droplets formed in a spray tower. The interfacial surface and the size of droplets formed are of fundamental importance to the performance of the equipment, both in terms of pressure drop and process efficiency. Liquid film and droplet sizes were measured using a microphotography technique. The confusors studied were classical, with profiled inside surface, and with double profiled inside surface. The liquids studied were water and aqueous solutions of high-molecular polyacrylamide (PAA) of power-law characteristics. The ranges of process Reynolds number studied were as follows: ReG ∈ (42,700; 113,000), ReL ∈ (170; 15,200). A dimensionless correlation for reduced Sauter mean diameter is proposed.

Abstract: This paper explores the effects of electrification of water sprays on the absorption of sulphur dioxide from exhaust gases. The results of this paper are based on experimental evidences related to the use of electrified (distilled) water in a lab-scale scrubber, coupled with independent determination of droplets morphology and charge. Experiments clearly show that electrification is associated with an appreciable improvement of sulphur dioxide absorption rate, reducing the height of transfer unit, HTU, of the lab-scale unit by at least 40%, with peaks over 80% with low supplementary costs, and it candidates to be a valuable innovation for spray tower absorbers. Water electrification is accompanied by chemical-physics and morphological modifications of the sprayed droplets influencing the conventional absorption rate of soluble gases. The experimental and theoretical evidences indicate the need to analyse the electrified absorption within a new and integrated theoretical framework that we define chemi-electro-hydrodynamics (CEHD).

Abstract: The invention discloses an ethylene oxide waste gas absorption coupling catalytic reaction purification device and process. High-concentration ethylene oxide waste gas is absorbed by several-level absorption spray tower water, remaining waste gas is emitted on standard, ethylene oxide water solution collected by an absorption spray tower kettle enters a hydration reactor to perform ethylene oxidehydration reaction to generate high-concentration ethylene glycol, part of ethylene glycol water solution reflows into the tower kettle after reaction, clear water is added, the ethylene glycol watersolution continues to serve as ethylene oxide waste gas absorption solution to be used, and parts of reaction products returns to an ethylene glycol water solution storage tank to be recycled. According to the process, absorption and reaction are divided into two portions of an independent unit, the absorption efficiency of a whole process is high, operation processes are simple, energy consumption is low, resource utilization of the absorption solution is achieved, occupied area is small, operation is simple, integrated operating cost is low, safety is high, emission of waste liquid is omitted, and the process is applicable to control of ethylene oxide waste gas of various large and small sterilization enterprises.

Abstract: The flow rate and temperature of the flue gas from a sintering machine can fluctuate in a wide range; thus, the follow-up desulfurization facility should be operated stably and maintained on-line. A new type of horizontal spray tower, which can achieve high efficiency with low pressure loss and easy maintenance, was invented by the University of Science and Technology Beijing. A 3D multiphase computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model of the horizontal spray tower was constructed with Fluent software to study the internal flow field and the reaction of the horizontal spray tower. The standard k–ξ model and the Eulerian–Lagrangian model were adopted in this study. Results show that the flow field in the spray tower can be numerically simulated utilizing the CFD technology. The inlet angle exerts an important effect on the flue gas flow field of the horizontal tower. When the first-order efficiency and the economic indicators are taken into account, an inlet angle of 75° is recommended in the top inlet intake mode, whereas a 30° inlet angle performs the best in the side inlet intake mode. The spray configuration exerts an important influence. When the spray cone angle is 110° and the installation height is controlled at 0.8 m from the top surface, the smoke residence time is long, and the contact is sufficient. The results can provide theoretical support for the optimization of the structure of the spray tower.

The system comprises a combustion chamber, an evaporation chamber, a gas-liquid separator, a spray tower,a negative pressure evaporation chamber, a secondary combustion chamber, an organic waste liquid preheater, an air preheater and a dust collector. The invention further discloses an efficient concentration treatment method for the organic waste liquid. Four optional working modes can be provided. Accordingly, the pollution problem caused by the phenomenon that in the evaporation concentration process, flue gas contains volatile organic matter can be solved while efficient treatment of organic waste liquid such as landfill leachate and high salinity industrial waste liquid which is highly corrosive, viscous and prone to crystallization and scaling is guaranteed.

A gas-liquid separation tower is arranged on the side edge of the evaporation type cooling spray tower. Separation tower water is contained in the gas-liquid separation tower. A demister is arranged on the upper side ofseparation tower water. A water communication pipe is arranged between the gas-liquid separation tower and the circulation groove.
