Confinement Studies in L and H-Type ASDEX Discharges

TL;DR: In this paper, the characteristics of neutral-beam-heated ASDEX discharges exhibiting either low (L)- or high (H)-confinement are described, and the most important parameter for transition to the H-mode seems to be a high edge electron temperature: Te values of -600 eV only a few centimeters inside the separatrix with radial gradients of ~300 eV/cm.
Journal ArticleDOI

The isotope effect in ASDEX

TL;DR: In this paper, the effect of the isotope mass on plasma parameters as observed in the ASDEX tokamak was analyzed in Ohmic as well as L mode, H mode, and H* mode scenarios.
Journal ArticleDOI

Observation of continuous divertor detachment in H-mode discharges in ASDEX upgrade.

TL;DR: Feedback-controlled puffing of neon and deuterium has been applied to control the edge-localized-mode behavior and the target plate power deposition during high-power H -mode discharges in ASDEX Upgrade.
Journal ArticleDOI

Design of the half-size ITER neutral beam source for the test facility ELISE

TL;DR: Stabler et al. as discussed by the authors developed a radio frequency driven negative hydrogen ion source for the ITER neutral beam system, which is an intermediate step between the present small IPP RF sources (1/8 ITER size) and the full size ITER source.
