TL;DR: The understanding and predictive capability of transport physics and plasma confinement is reviewed from the perspective of achieving reactor-scale burning plasmas in the ITER tokamak, for both core and edge plasma regions.
Journal ArticleDOI
Tungsten: An option for divertor and main chamber plasma facing components in future fusion devices
Rudolf Neu,R. Dux,A. Kallenbach,Th. Pütterich,M. Balden,Julia Fuchs,A. Herrmann,C. F. Maggi,M. G. O'Mullane,R. Pugno,I. Radivojevic,V. Rohde,A. C. C. Sips,W. Suttrop,A. D. Whiteford +14 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the spectroscopic diagnostic of W surfaces has been extended and refined and the cooling factor of W has been re-evaluated, pointing to critical issues when operating with a W wall: anomalous transport in the plasma centre should not be too low, otherwise neoclassical accumulation can occur.
Journal ArticleDOI

TL;DR: In this article, the ITER design requirements were reviewed and as appropriate updated and the focus of this paper will be on recent work affecting ITER with special emphasis on topics affecting near-term procurement arrangements.

J. Stober,M. Maraschek,Garrard Conway,O. Gruber,Albrecht Herrmann,A. C. C. Sips,W. Treutterer,H. Zohm +7 more
TL;DR: In this paper, small ELMs magnetic precursors are observed with a frequency of ≈ 30 kHz and dominant mode numbers of toroidally 3 and 4 and poloidally ≥ 14.
