Atmospheric nitrogen budget in Sahelian dry savannas
Claire Delon,Corinne Galy-Lacaux,Aaron Boone,Catherine Liousse,Dominique Serça,Marcellin Adon,Babakar Diop,Aristide Akpo,François Lavenu,Eric Mougin,Franck Timouk +10 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a first attempt at estimating the Sahel nitrogen budget for the year 2006 is made, through measurements and simulations at three stations from the IDAF network situated in dry savanna ecosystems.
Journal ArticleDOI
Surface response to rain events throughout the West African monsoon
Fabienne Lohou,Laurent Kergoat,Françoise Guichard,Aaron Boone,Bernard Cappelaere,Jean-Martial Cohard,Jérôme Demarty,Sylvie Galle,Manuela Grippa,Christophe Peugeot,David Ramier,Christopher M. Taylor,Franck Timouk +12 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors analyzed the response of the continental surface to rain events, taking advantage of the long-term near-surface measurements over different vegetation types at different latitudes, acquired during the African Monsoon Multidisciplinary Analysis (AMMA) by the AMMA-CATCH observing system.
Journal ArticleDOI
Assimilation of satellite data to optimize large-scale hydrological model parameters: a case study for the SWOT mission
TL;DR: In this paper, an extended Kalman filter (EKF) algorithm was used to correct the Manning roughness coefficients of the ISBA (Interactions between Soil, Biosphere, and Atmosphere)-TRIP (Total Runoff Integrating Pathways) continental hydrologic system.
Journal ArticleDOI
Evaluation of the WAMME model surface fluxes using results from the AMMA land-surface model intercomparison project
TL;DR: In this article, surface energy fluxes simulated by an ensemble of land surface models from AMMA Land-surface Model Intercomparison Project (ALMIP) have been used as a proxy for the best estimate of the real world values in order to evaluate GCM and RCM simulations under the auspices of the West African Monsoon Modelling Experiment (WAMME) project, since such large-scale observations do not exist.
Journal ArticleDOI
West African monsoon decadal variability and surface-related forcings: second West African Monsoon Modeling and Evaluation Project Experiment (WAMME II)
Yongkang Xue,Fernando De Sales,William K. M. Lau,Aaron Boone,Kyu-Myong Kim,Carlos R. Mechoso,Guiling Wang,Fred Kucharski,Kathleen A. Schiro,Masahiro Hosaka,Suosuo Li,Suosuo Li,Leonard M. Druyan,Ibrah Seidou Sanda,Wassila M. Thiaw,Ning Zeng,Ruth E. Comer,Young-Kwon Lim,Young-Kwon Lim,Sarith Mahanama,G. Song,Yu Gu,Samson Hagos,Mian Chin,Siegfried D. Schubert,Paul A. Dirmeyer,L. Ruby Leung,Eugenia Kalnay,Akio Kitoh,Cheng-Hsuan Lu,Natalie M. Mahowald,Zhengqiu Zhang +31 more
TL;DR: The second WAMME II experiment as mentioned in this paper was designed to evaluate the role of sea surface temperature (SST) and land use land cover change (LULCC) forcing in the Sahel climate system at seasonal to decadal scales.
