Journal ArticleDOI
A validated 1H NMR method for the determination of the degree of deacetylation of chitosan.
Marc Lavertu,Z. Xia,A. Serreqi,Mohammed Berrada,Acácio G. Rodrigues,Deshou Wang,Michael D. Buschmann,Ajay Prakash Gupta +7 more
TL;DR: A method for the determination of the degree of deacetylation of chitosan by 1H NMR spectroscopy has been formally validated and is found to be simple, rapid and more precise than other known techniques like IR or titration for %DDA measurements.
Journal ArticleDOI
Antifungal activity of the essential oil of Thymus pulegioides on Candida, Aspergillus and dermatophyte species.
Eugénia Pinto,Cidália Pina-Vaz,Lígia Salgueiro,Maria José Gonçalves,Sofia Costa-de-Oliveira,Carlos Cavaleiro,Ana Palmeira,Acácio G. Rodrigues,José Martinez-de-Oliveira +8 more
TL;DR: The present study indicates that T. pulegioides essential oil has considerable antifungal activity, deserving further investigation for clinical applications.
Journal ArticleDOI
Adhesion, biofilm formation, cell surface hydrophobicity, and antifungal planktonic susceptibility: relationship among Candida spp.
Ana Silva-Dias,Isabel M. Miranda,Joana Branco,Matilde Monteiro-Soares,Cidália Pina-Vaz,Acácio G. Rodrigues +5 more
TL;DR: CSH seemed to be a good predictor for biofilm formation but not for adhesion, and despite the marked variability registered intra and inter species, C. tropicalis and C. parapsilosis were the species exhibiting high adhesion profile.
Journal ArticleDOI
Facts and myths on recurrent vulvovaginal candidosis-a review on epidemiology, clinical manifestations, diagnosis, pathogenesis and therapy.
Per-Anders Mårdh,Acácio G. Rodrigues,Mehmet R. Genc,Natalia Novikova,José Martinez-de-Oliveira,Secondo Guaschino +5 more
TL;DR: Treatment of RVVC, including local and systemic antimicrobial therapy and behaviour modification to decrease the risk of recurrences, are discussed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Prevalence, Distribution, and Antifungal Susceptibility Profiles of Candida parapsilosis, C. orthopsilosis, and C. metapsilosis in a Tertiary Care Hospital
Ana Elisa Bauer de Camargo Silva,Isabel M. Miranda,Carmen Lisboa,Cidália Pina-Vaz,Acácio G. Rodrigues +4 more
TL;DR: Evaluation of the antifungal susceptibility profile showed that only nine C. parapsilosis sensu stricto strains were susceptible-dose dependent or resistant to fluconazole, and a single strain displayed a multiazole-resistant phenotype.
