Journal ArticleDOI
The phylogenetic and geographic structure of Y-chromosome haplogroup R1a.
Peter A. Underhill,G. David Poznik,Siiri Rootsi,Mari Järve,Alice A. Lin,Jianbin Wang,Ben Passarelli,Jad Kanbar,Natalie M. Myres,Roy J. King,Julie Di Cristofaro,Hovhannes Sahakyan,Doron M. Behar,Alena Kushniarevich,Jelena Šarac,Tena Šarić,Pavao Rudan,Ajai Kumar Pathak,Gyaneshwer Chaubey,Viola Grugni,Ornella Semino,Levon Yepiskoposyan,Ardeshir Bahmanimehr,Shirin Farjadian,Oleg Balanovsky,Elza Khusnutdinova,Rene J. Herrera,Jacques Chiaroni,Carlos Bustamante,Stephen R. Quake,Toomas Kivisild,Richard Villems +31 more
TL;DR: The spatial frequency distributions of R1a sub-haplogroups conclusively indicate two major groups, one found primarily in Europe and the other confined to Central and South Asia.
Journal ArticleDOI
Shifts in the Genetic Landscape of the Western Eurasian Steppe Associated with the Beginning and End of the Scythian Dominance.
Mari Järve,Lehti Saag,Christiana L. Scheib,Ajai Kumar Pathak,Francesco Montinaro,Luca Pagani,Luca Pagani,Rodrigo Flores,Meriam Guellil,Lauri Saag,Kristiina Tambets,Alena Kushniarevich,Anu Solnik,Liivi Varul,Stanislav Zadnikov,Oleg Petrauskas,Maryana Avramenko,Boris Magomedov,Serghii Didenko,Gennadi Toshev,Igor Bruyako,Denys Grechko,Vitalii Okatenko,Kyrylo Gorbenko,Oleksandr Smyrnov,Anatolii Heiko,Roman Reida,Serheii Sapiehin,Sergey Sirotin,Aleksandr Tairov,Arman Beisenov,Maksim Starodubtsev,Vitali Vasilev,Alexei Nechvaloda,Biyaslan Atabiev,Sergey Litvinov,Natalia Ekomasova,Natalia Ekomasova,Murat Dzhaubermezov,Murat Dzhaubermezov,Sergey Voroniatov,Olga Utevska,Irina Shramko,Elza Khusnutdinova,Elza Khusnutdinova,Mait Metspalu,Nikita Savelev,Aivar Kriiska,Toomas Kivisild,Toomas Kivisild,Richard Villems +50 more
TL;DR: The results agree with the Gothic source of the Chernyakhiv culture and support the hypothesis that the Scythian dominance did involve a demic component, and present new whole-genome sequences of 31 ancient Western and Eastern Steppe individuals, including Scythians as well as samples pre- and postdating them.
Journal ArticleDOI
The phylogeography of Y-chromosome haplogroup h1a1a-m82 reveals the likely Indian origin of the European Romani populations.
Niraj Rai,Gyaneshwer Chaubey,Rakesh Tamang,Ajai Kumar Pathak,Vipin Kumar Singh,Monika Karmin,Monika Karmin,Manvendra K. Singh,Deepa Selvi Rani,Sharath Anugula,Brijesh Kumar Yadav,Ashish Singh,Ramkumar Srinivasagan,Anita Yadav,Manju Kashyap,Sapna Narvariya,Alla G. Reddy,George van Driem,Peter A. Underhill,Richard Villems,Richard Villems,Richard Villems,Toomas Kivisild,Toomas Kivisild,Lalji Singh,Lalji Singh,Kumarasamy Thangaraj +26 more
TL;DR: The phylogeographical patterns and diversity estimates indicate an early origin of this Y-chromosomal haplogroup H1a1a-M82 in the Indian subcontinent and its further expansion to other regions.
Journal ArticleDOI
The Genetic Ancestry of Modern Indus Valley Populations from Northwest India.
Ajai Kumar Pathak,Anurag Kadian,Alena Kushniarevich,Alena Kushniarevich,Francesco Montinaro,Francesco Montinaro,Mayukh Mondal,Linda Ongaro,Manvendra K. Singh,Pramod Kumar,Niraj Rai,Jüri Parik,Ene Metspalu,Siiri Rootsi,Luca Pagani,Luca Pagani,Toomas Kivisild,Toomas Kivisild,Mait Metspalu,Gyaneshwer Chaubey,Gyaneshwer Chaubey,Richard Villems +21 more
TL;DR: New genome-wide genotype data for 45 modern individuals from four Northwest Indian populations, including the Ror, are reported, showing that the Indus Valley populations are characterized by considerable genetic heterogeneity that has persisted over thousands of years.
Journal ArticleDOI
The genetic legacy of continental scale admixture in Indian Austroasiatic speakers
Kai Tätte,Luca Pagani,Luca Pagani,Ajai Kumar Pathak,Sulev Kõks,Binh Ho Duy,Xuan Dung Ho,Gazi Nurun Nahar Sultana,Mohd Istiaq Sharif,Asaduzzaman,Doron M. Behar,Yarin Hadid,Richard Villems,Gyaneshwer Chaubey,Gyaneshwer Chaubey,Toomas Kivisild,Toomas Kivisild,Mait Metspalu +17 more
TL;DR: Using genome-wide genotype data of 102 Munda speakers and contextual data from South and Southeast Asia, admixture dates between 2000–3800 years ago for different populations of Munda are retrieved and the grouping of the MundA speakers into North and South Munda based on linguistics is in concordance with genome- wide data.
