Journal ArticleDOI
New insights into the Tyrolean Iceman's origin and phenotype as inferred by whole-genome sequencing
Andreas Keller,Angela Graefen,Markus Ball,Mark Matzas,Valesca Boisguerin,Frank Maixner,Petra Leidinger,Christina Backes,Rabab Khairat,Michael Forster,Bjoern Stade,Andre Franke,Jens Mayer,Jessica Spangler,Stephen F. McLaughlin,Minita Shah,Clarence Lee,Timothy T. Harkins,Alexander Sartori,Andrés Moreno-Estrada,Brenna M. Henn,Martin Sikora,Ornella Semino,Jacques Chiaroni,Siiri Rootsi,Natalie M. Myres,Vicente M. Cabrera,Peter A. Underhill,Carlos Bustamante,Eduard Egarter Vigl,Marco Samadelli,Giovanna Cipollini,Jan Haas,Hugo A. Katus,Brian O'Connor,Marc R. J. Carlson,Benjamin Meder,Nikolaus Blin,Nikolaus Blin,Eckart Meese,Carsten M. Pusch,Albert Zink +41 more
TL;DR: The complete genome sequence of the Iceman is reported and 100% concordance between the previously reported mitochondrial genome sequence and the consensus sequence generated from the genomic data is shown.
Journal ArticleDOI
A major Y-chromosome haplogroup R1b Holocene era founder effect in Central and Western Europe.
Natalie M. Myres,Siiri Rootsi,Alice A. Lin,Mari Järve,Roy J. King,I. A. Kutuev,I. A. Kutuev,Vicente M. Cabrera,Elza Khusnutdinova,Andrey Pshenichnov,Andrey Pshenichnov,Bayazit Yunusbayev,Bayazit Yunusbayev,Oleg Balanovsky,Oleg Balanovsky,Elena Balanovska,Pavao Rudan,Marian Baldovic,Marian Baldovic,Rene J. Herrera,Jacques Chiaroni,Julie Di Cristofaro,Richard Villems,Toomas Kivisild,Peter A. Underhill +24 more
TL;DR: Within the M412 dichotomy, the major S116 sub-clade shows a frequency peak in the upper Danube basin and Paris area with declining frequency toward Italy, Iberia, Southern France and British Isles, and more complex pre-Neolithic scenarios remain possible for the L23(xM412) components in Southeast Europe and elsewhere.
Journal ArticleDOI
Sequence family variant loss from the AZFc interval of the human Y chromosome, but not gene copy loss, is strongly associated with male infertility
N Machev,Noémie Saut,Guy Longepied,P. Terriou,A. Navarro,Nicolas Lévy,Marie-Roberte Guichaoua,Catherine Metzler-Guillemain,P Collignon,Am Frances,J Belougne,E Clemente,Jacques Chiaroni,Christophe Chevillard,C Durand,Axel Ducourneau,N Pech,Ken McElreavey,M.-G. Mattei,Mj Mitchell +19 more
TL;DR: The only deletion type to show an association with infertility was DAZ3/4-CDY1a (p = 0.042), suggesting that most gr/gr deletions are neutral variants.
Journal ArticleDOI
Y chromosome diversity, human expansion, drift, and cultural evolution
TL;DR: It is suggested that cultural evolution has been subrogating biologic evolution in providing natural selection advantages and reducing the authors' dependence on genetic mutations, especially in the last phase of transition from food collection to food production.
Journal ArticleDOI
The phylogenetic and geographic structure of Y-chromosome haplogroup R1a.
Peter A. Underhill,G. David Poznik,Siiri Rootsi,Mari Järve,Alice A. Lin,Jianbin Wang,Ben Passarelli,Jad Kanbar,Natalie M. Myres,Roy J. King,Julie Di Cristofaro,Hovhannes Sahakyan,Doron M. Behar,Alena Kushniarevich,Jelena Šarac,Tena Šarić,Pavao Rudan,Ajai Kumar Pathak,Gyaneshwer Chaubey,Viola Grugni,Ornella Semino,Levon Yepiskoposyan,Ardeshir Bahmanimehr,Shirin Farjadian,Oleg Balanovsky,Elza Khusnutdinova,Rene J. Herrera,Jacques Chiaroni,Carlos Bustamante,Stephen R. Quake,Toomas Kivisild,Richard Villems +31 more
TL;DR: The spatial frequency distributions of R1a sub-haplogroups conclusively indicate two major groups, one found primarily in Europe and the other confined to Central and South Asia.
