Journal ArticleDOI
Ultrastable laser interferometry for earthquake detection with terrestrial and submarine cables
Giuseppe Marra,Cecilia Clivati,R. Luckett,Anna Tampellini,J. Kronjäger,Louise Wright,Alberto Mura,Filippo Levi,Stephen P. Robinson,André Xuereb,Brian Baptie,Davide Calonico +11 more
TL;DR: It is found that ordinary submarine telecommunication cables can be used to detect earthquakes, and existing telecommunication optical fiber cables can detect seismic events when combined with state-of-the-art frequency metrology techniques by using the fiber itself as the sensing element.
Journal ArticleDOI
High-accuracy coherent optical frequency transfer over a doubled 642-km fiber link
Davide Calonico,E. K. Bertacco,Claudio E. Calosso,Cecilia Clivati,Giovanni Antonio Costanzo,M. Frittelli,A. Godone,Alberto Mura,Nicola Poli,D. V. Sutyrin,Guglielmo M. Tino,Massimo Zucco,Filippo Levi +12 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a 642-km coherent optical fiber link was used for frequency dissemination through a single-input-single-output (SISO) link and the frequency instability was evaluated at 1,000 s in terms of Allan deviation on a 5mHz measurement bandwidth.
Journal ArticleDOI
Entanglement distribution over a 96-km-long submarine optical fiber
Sören Wengerowsky,Siddarth Koduru Joshi,Fabian Steinlechner,Julien Zichi,Sergiy M. Dobrovolskiy,René van der Molen,Johannes W. N. Los,Val Zwiller,Marijn A. M. Versteegh,Alberto Mura,Davide Calonico,Massimo Inguscio,Massimo Inguscio,Hannes Hubel,Liu Bo,Liu Bo,Thomas Scheidl,Thomas Scheidl,Anton Zeilinger,Anton Zeilinger,André Xuereb,Rupert Ursin +21 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors reported on the successful distribution of polarization-entangled photon pairs between Malta and Sicily over 96 km of submarine optical telecommunications fiber, with a polarization visibility above 90%.
Journal ArticleDOI
A VLBI experiment using a remote atomic clock via a coherent fibre link.
Cecilia Clivati,Roberto Ambrosini,Thomas Artz,Alessandra Bertarini,Alessandra Bertarini,Claudio Bortolotti,M. Frittelli,Filippo Levi,Alberto Mura,Giuseppe Maccaferri,Mauro Nanni,Monia Negusini,Federico Perini,Mauro Roma,Matteo Stagni,Massimo Zucco,Davide Calonico +16 more
TL;DR: An experiment in which, for the first time, the clock reference is delivered from a National Metrology Institute to a radio telescope using a coherent fibre link 550 km long, encouraging further investigation of the ultimate VLBI performances achievable using fibre dissemination at the highest precision of state-of-the-art atomic clocks.
Journal ArticleDOI
Coherent optical frequency transfer at 5e-19 over a doubled 642 km fiber link
Davide Calonico,E. K. Bertacco,Claudio E. Calosso,Cecilia Clivati,Giovanni Antonio Costanzo,M. Frittelli,Aldo Godone,Alberto Mura,Nicola Poli,D. V. Sutyrin,Guglielmo M. Tino,Massimo Zucco,Filippo Levi +12 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a 642 km coherent optical fiber link was proposed to improve the frequency references used in radio-astronomy and precision measurements in atomic physics, which achieved a resolution of 3e-19 at 1000 s on the frequency transfer.
