Journal ArticleDOI

Remote sensing of vegetation dynamics in drylands: Evaluating vegetation optical depth (VOD) using AVHRR NDVI and in situ green biomass data over West African Sahel

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors assess the capability of a long-term VOD dataset (1992-2011) to capture the temporal and spatial variability of in situ measured green biomass (herbaceous mass and woody plant foliage mass) in the semi-arid Senegalese Sahel.
Journal ArticleDOI

A comparison of methods for smoothing and gap filling time series of remote sensing observations - application to MODIS LAI products

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors compared eight methods to improve the continuity by filling gaps and consistency by smoothing the time course of the MODIS leaf area index product for the period 2000-2008.
Journal ArticleDOI

Human population growth offsets climate-driven increase in woody vegetation in sub-Saharan Africa

TL;DR: A nuanced picture of changes in woody cover in Africa is presented, which challenges widely held views of a general and ongoing reduction of the woody vegetation in Africa.
Journal ArticleDOI

Green area index from an unmanned aerial system over wheat and rapeseed crops

TL;DR: In this paper, a physically based algorithm for estimating green area index (GAI) from UAS acquisitions was described. But the accuracy of UAS GAI estimates over wheat and rapeseed crops was around 0.17 compared to 0.26 GAI in terms of RMSE.
