Journal ArticleDOI
Stress relaxation in epithelial monolayers is controlled by the actomyosin cortex.
Nargess Khalilgharibi,Nargess Khalilgharibi,Jonathan Fouchard,Nina Asadipour,Ricardo Barrientos,Maria Duda,Alessandra Bonfanti,Amina Yonis,Amina Yonis,Andrew R. Harris,Payman Mosaffa,Yasuyuki Fujita,Alexandre Kabla,Yanlan Mao,Buzz Baum,José J. Muñoz,Mark Miodownik,Guillaume Charras,Guillaume Charras +18 more
TL;DR: By subjecting suspended epithelial monolayers to stretch, it is found that they dissipate stresses on a minute timescale and that relaxation can be described by a power law with an exponential cut-off at timescales larger than about 10 s.
Journal ArticleDOI
Fractional viscoelastic models for power-law materials
TL;DR: In this article, the authors provide a clear and accessible description of fractional viscoelastic models for a broad audience, and demonstrate the ability of these models to deliver a unified approach for the characterisation of power-law materials.
Journal ArticleDOI
Fractional viscoelastic models for power-law materials.
TL;DR: This review aims to provide a clear and accessible description of fractional viscoelastic models for a broad audience and to demonstrate the ability of these models to deliver a unified approach for the characterisation of power-law materials.
Journal ArticleDOI
Nanoscale dysregulation of collagen structure-function disrupts mechano-homeostasis and mediates pulmonary fibrosis
Mark Jones,Orestis G. Andriotis,James Roberts,Kerry Lunn,Victoria Tear,Lucy Cao,Kjetil Ask,David E. Smart,Alessandra Bonfanti,Peter Johnson,Aiman Alzetani,Franco Conforti,Regan Doherty,Chester Lai,Benjamin Johnson,Konstantinos N. Bourdakos,Sophie V. Fletcher,Ben G. Marshall,Sanjay Jogai,Christopher J. Brereton,Serena J Chee,Christian H. Ottensmeier,Patricia J. Sime,Jack Gauldie,Martin Kolb,Sumeet Mahajan,Aurelie Fabre,Atul Bhaskar,Wolfgang Jarolimek,Luca Richeldi,Luca Richeldi,Katherine M.A. O'Reilly,Katherine M.A. O'Reilly,Phillip Monk,Philipp J. Thurner,Donna E. Davies +35 more
TL;DR: In human fibrosis, altered collagen architecture is a key determinant of abnormal ECM structure-function, and inhibition of pyridinoline cross-linking can maintain mechano-homeostasis to limit the self-sustaining effects of ECM on progressive fibrosis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Biomechanical Characterization at the Cell Scale: Present and Prospects.
Francesco Basoli,Sara Maria Giannitelli,Manuele Gori,Pamela Mozetic,Alessandra Bonfanti,Marcella Trombetta,Alberto Rainer,Alberto Rainer +7 more
TL;DR: This review introduces the available methods for probing the mechanical response of living cells and their physico–chemical interaction with the microenvironment, with an emphasis on the most recent advances, and discusses the challenges associated with their implementation.
