The near-surface circulation of the North Pacific using satellite tracked drifting buoys

TL;DR: In this paper, the trajectories of 16 satellite-tracked drifting buoys from February 1976 through May 1980 and their derived velocities are used to construct a Lagrangian realization of the near-surface circulation of the North Pacific subtropical gyre.
Journal ArticleDOI

Sea surface motion over an anticyclonic eddy on the Oyashio Front

TL;DR: In this article, the authors used an interactive computer algorithm to calculate surface flow components from displacement of surface pattern features and elapsed time, and gave estimates of speed and direction for motion along the Oyashio Front and over an anticyclonic eddy between the First and Second Oyashi Intrusions.
Journal ArticleDOI

Advances in satellite sea surface temperature measurement and oceanographic applications

TL;DR: Satellite techniques for measurement of sea surface temperature (SST) are reviewed briefly, and a discussion of satellite SST applications and recent research in oceanography is provided in this article.
Journal ArticleDOI

Sea Surface Topography Estimation with Infrared Satellite Imagery

TL;DR: In this article, a least-squares regression analysis for coefficients of a stream function expansion that is expressed in terms of trigonometric bash functions is used to estimate the sea surface topography.
