Journal ArticleDOI
Synthesis of borophenes: Anisotropic, two-dimensional boron polymorphs
Andrew J. Mannix,Andrew J. Mannix,Xiang-Feng Zhou,Xiang-Feng Zhou,Brian Kiraly,Brian Kiraly,Joshua D. Wood,Diego Alducin,Benjamin D. Myers,Xiaolong Liu,Brandon Fisher,Ulises Santiago,Jeffrey R. Guest,Miguel Jose Yacaman,Arturo Ponce,Artem R. Oganov,Artem R. Oganov,Artem R. Oganov,Mark C. Hersam,Nathan P. Guisinger +19 more
TL;DR: At Atomic-scale characterization, supported by theoretical calculations, revealed structures reminiscent of fused boron clusters with multiple scales of anisotropic, out-of-plane buckling that are consistent with predictions of a highly an isotropic, 2D metal.
Journal ArticleDOI
Synthesis and chemistry of elemental 2D materials
Andrew J. Mannix,Andrew J. Mannix,Brian Kiraly,Brian Kiraly,Mark C. Hersam,Nathan P. Guisinger +5 more
TL;DR: A review of recent progress and current challenges in the synthesis and stabilization of elemental 2D materials can be found in this article, with a focus on topical species with peculiar properties and properties.
Journal ArticleDOI
Borophene as a prototype for synthetic 2D materials development
TL;DR: Borophene combines unique mechanical properties with anisotropic metallicity, which complements the canon of conventional 2D materials and can serve as a prototype for ongoing efforts to discover and exploit synthetic2D materials.
Journal ArticleDOI
Borophene Synthesis on Au(111).
Brian Kiraly,Xiaolong Liu,Luqing Wang,Zhuhua Zhang,Andrew J. Mannix,Andrew J. Mannix,Brandon Fisher,Boris I. Yakobson,Mark C. Hersam,Nathan P. Guisinger +9 more
TL;DR: In this article, the first 2D allotrope of boron was synthesized on Au(111) substrates, where borons diffused into Au at elevated temperatures and separated to the surface to form borophene islands as the substrate cooled.
Journal ArticleDOI
Direct oriented growth of armchair graphene nanoribbons on germanium.
Robert M. Jacobberger,Brian Kiraly,Brian Kiraly,Matthieu Fortin-Deschênes,Pierre L. Levesque,Kyle M. McElhinny,Gerald J. Brady,Richard Rojas Delgado,Susmit Singha Roy,Andrew J. Mannix,Andrew J. Mannix,Max G. Lagally,Paul G. Evans,Patrick Desjardins,Richard Martel,Mark C. Hersam,Nathan P. Guisinger,Michael S. Arnold +17 more
TL;DR: This paper demonstrates the synthesis of graphene nanoribbons on Ge(001) via chemical vapour deposition and promises to allow the integration of nan oribbon fabrication directly on conventional semiconductor wafer platforms and into future hybrid integrated circuits.
