Journal ArticleDOI
Development of a multiplex loop-mediated isothermal amplification (mLAMP) method for the simultaneous detection of bovine Babesia parasites.
Hiroshi Iseki,Andy Alhassan,Naomi Ohta,Oriel M. M. Thekisoe,Naoaki Yokoyama,Noboru Inoue,Andrew Nambota,Jun Yasuda,Ikuo Igarashi +8 more
TL;DR: The findings indicate that this mLAMP method is a new convenient tool for simultaneous detection of the bovine Babesia parasites.
Journal ArticleDOI
Species-specific loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) for diagnosis of trypanosomosis.
Oriel M. M. Thekisoe,Noritaka Kuboki,Andrew Nambota,Kozo Fujisaki,Chihiro Sugimoto,Ikuo Igarashi,Jun Yasuda,Noboru Inoue +7 more
TL;DR: Loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) is a rapid and simple technique since it can be carried out in 1 h and requires only a simple heating device for incubation, which has great potential of being used for diagnosis of trypanosomosis in the laboratory and the field.
Journal ArticleDOI
Seroepidemiological Prevalence of Multiple Species of Filoviruses in Fruit Bats (Eidolon helvum) Migrating in Africa
Hirohito Ogawa,Hiroko Miyamoto,Eri Nakayama,Reiko Yoshida,Ichiro Nakamura,Hirofumi Sawa,Akihiro Ishii,Yuka Thomas,Emiko Nakagawa,Keita Matsuno,Masahiro Kajihara,Junki Maruyama,Naganori Nao,Mieko Muramatsu,Makoto Kuroda,Edgar Simulundu,Katendi Changula,Bernard M. Hang’ombe,Boniface Namangala,Andrew Nambota,Jackson Katampi,Manabu Igarashi,Kimihito Ito,Heinz Feldmann,Chihiro Sugimoto,Ladslav Moonga,Aaron S. Mweene,Ayato Takada +27 more
TL;DR: Interestingly, the transition of filovirus species causing outbreaks in Central and West Africa during 2005-2014 seemed to be synchronized with the change of the serologically dominant virus species in these bats, suggesting the introduction of multiple species offiloviruses in the migratory bat population.
Journal ArticleDOI
Risk factors associated with bovine tuberculosis in traditional cattle of the livestock/wildlife interface areas in the Kafue basin of Zambia.
Musso Munyeme,John Bwalya Muma,Eystein Skjerve,Andrew Nambota,Isaac K. Phiri,K. L. Samui,Pierre Dorny,Morten Tryland +7 more
TL;DR: The logistic regression model showed that cattle herd BTB status was highly associated with area and husbandry practices, and cattle herds in Blue Lagoon were more likely to test positive for BTB when other factors such as management practices were controlled.
Journal ArticleDOI
Prevalence of bovine tuberculosis and animal level risk factors for indigenous cattle under different grazing strategies in the livestock/wildlife interface areas of Zambia
Musso Munyeme,John Bwalya Muma,K. L. Samui,Eystein Skjerve,Andrew Nambota,Isaac K. Phiri,Leen Rigouts,Morten Tryland +7 more
TL;DR: BTB was relatively high in the livestock/wildlife interface areas of Lochinvar and Blue Lagoon compared to Kazungula, and should raise a serious public health concern considering the extent to which the communities of the study areas are in contact with their animals and the levels at which they use untreated milk.
