Journal ArticleDOI
Hepatitis C virus in multiple episodes of acute hepatitis in polytransfused thalassaemic children
Me Lai,Anna Paola Mazzoleni,Angelo Balestrieri,F Argiolu,S. De Virgilis,Antonio Cao,Robert H. Purcell,Patrizia Farci +7 more
TL;DR: HCV infection may not induce protective immunity, which has implications for vaccine development and is investigated in three polytransfused thalassaemic children.
Journal ArticleDOI
Long-term benefit of interferon α therapy of chronic hepatitis D: regression of advanced hepatic fibrosis
Patrizia Farci,Tania Roskams,Luchino Chessa,Giovanna Peddis,Anna Paola Mazzoleni,Rosetta Scioscia,Giancarlo Serra,Maria Eliana Lai,M Loy,L. Caruso,Valeer Desmet,Robert H. Purcell,Angelo Balestrieri +12 more
TL;DR: High doses of interferon alpha-2a significantly improved the long-term clinical outcome and survival of patients with chronic hepatitis D, even though the majority had active cirrhosis before the onset of therapy.
Journal ArticleDOI
The role of pre-core hepatitis B virus mutants on the long-term outcome of chronic hepatitis B virus hepatitis. A longitudinal study
Maria Eliana Lai,Antonio Solinas,Anna Paola Mazzoleni,A. Deplano,Patrizia Farci,Vitalia Lisci,Antonella Porru,A. Tocco,Angelo Balestrieri +8 more
TL;DR: The type of circulating pre-core hepatitis B virus-DNA by polymerase chain reaction and sequencing in 41 selected chronic HBsAg carriers with extensive follow up monitored in 12 HBeAg-positive patients with chronic hepatitis, who seroconverted to anti-HBe during follow up, revealed persistently normal alanine aminotransferase.
Journal ArticleDOI
Sequence analysis of hepatitis B virus genome of a new mutant of ayw subtype isolated in Sardinia.
Journal ArticleDOI
Markers of hepatitis C virus infection in Sardinian blood donors: relationship with alanine aminotransferase levels.
Maria Eliana Lai,Anna Paola Mazzoleni,Patrizia Farci,Antonello Melis,Antonella Porru,G Orgiana,M Arnone,Angelo Balestrieri +7 more
TL;DR: This study demonstrates that the combined use of second‐generation ELISA and RIBA anti‐HCV assays is highly effective in identifying HCV infection, whereas the specificity of ELISA alone for the screening of blood donors with normal ALT values appears to be limited.
