TL;DR: The pattern was similar to the last major influenza A(H3N2) season in 2014/15 in Europe, although starting earlier in line with the early influenza season start, and cold weather snaps contributed in some countries.

TL;DR: The high mortality among elderly was unexpected in an influenza B dominated season, which commonly are considered to cause mild illness, mainly among children, and the common perception of influenza B only having a modest impact on excess mortality in the older population may be reconsidered.

A predictive model relating daily fluctuations in summer temperatures and mortality rates
Anne Fouillet,Anne Fouillet,Grégoire Rey,Grégoire Rey,Eric Jougla,Eric Jougla,Philippe Frayssinet,Pierre Bessemoulin,Denis Hémon,Denis Hémon +9 more
TL;DR: Although France is a large country with geographic heterogeneity in both mortality and temperatures, a strong correlation between the daily fluctuations in mortality and the temperatures in summer on a national scale was observed and the model provided a satisfactory quantitative prediction of the daily mortality.
Journal ArticleDOI
