The impact of heat waves on mortality in 9 European cities: results from the EuroHEAT project

TL;DR: Climate change scenarios indicate that extreme events are expected to increase in the future even in regions where heat waves are not frequent, so prevention programs should specifically target the elderly, women and those suffering from chronic respiratory disorders, thus reducing the impact on mortality.
Journal ArticleDOI

The burden of heat-related mortality attributable to recent human-induced climate change

Ana M. Vicedo-Cabrera, +81 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors use empirical data from 732 locations in 43 countries to estimate the mortality burdens associated with the additional heat exposure that has resulted from recent human-induced warming, during the period 1991-2018.
Journal ArticleDOI

Global, regional, and national burden of mortality associated with non-optimal ambient temperatures from 2000 to 2019: a three-stage modelling study

Qi Zhao, +80 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the global, regional, and national mortality burden associated with non-optimal ambient temperatures was evaluated using time-series data collected from 750 locations in 43 countries and five meta-predictors.
Journal ArticleDOI

Factors affecting in-hospital heat-related mortality: a multi-city case-crossover analysis

TL;DR: In-hospital mortality is strongly associated with high temperatures, and increased attention to vulnerable patients during heatwaves, especially in general medicine, are necessary preventive measures.
