Journal ArticleDOI
Motoric cognitive risk syndrome: Multicountry prevalence and dementia risk
Joe Verghese,Cédric Annweiler,Emmeline Ayers,Nir Barzilai,Olivier Beauchet,David A. Bennett,Stephanie A. Bridenbaugh,Aron S. Buchman,Michele L. Callisaya,Michele L. Callisaya,Richard Camicioli,Benjamin D. Capistrant,Somnath Chatterji,Anne-Marie De Cock,Luigi Ferrucci,Nir Giladi,Jack M. Guralnik,Jeffrey M. Hausdorff,Roee Holtzer,Ki Woong Kim,Paul Kowal,Reto W. Kressig,Jae Young Lim,Sue Lord,Kenichi Meguro,Manuel Montero-Odasso,Susan W. Muir-Hunter,Mohan Leslie Noone,Lynn Rochester,Velandai Srikanth,Cuiling Wang +30 more
TL;DR: MCR is common in older adults, and is a strong and early risk factor for cognitive decline, and can be easily applied to identify high-risk seniors in a wide variety of settings.
Journal ArticleDOI
Poor Gait Performance and Prediction of Dementia: Results From a Meta-Analysis
Olivier Beauchet,Olivier Beauchet,Cédric Annweiler,Michele L. Callisaya,Michele L. Callisaya,Anne-Marie De Cock,Jorunn L. Helbostad,Reto W. Kressig,Velandai Srikanth,Jean-Paul Steinmetz,Helena M. Blumen,Joe Verghese,Gilles Allali,Gilles Allali +13 more
TL;DR: This meta-analysis provides evidence that poor gait performance predicts dementia; this association depends on the type of dementia; poor gact performance is a stronger predictor of non-AD dementias than AD.
Journal ArticleDOI
Guidelines for Assessment of Gait and Reference Values for Spatiotemporal Gait Parameters in Older Adults: The Biomathics and Canadian Gait Consortiums Initiative
Olivier Beauchet,Olivier Beauchet,Gilles Allali,Gilles Allali,Harmehr Sekhon,Joe Verghese,Sylvie Guilain,Jean-Paul Steinmetz,Reto W. Kressig,John M. Barden,Tony Szturm,Cyrille P. Launay,Sébastien Grenier,Louis Bherer,Louis Bherer,Teresa Liu-Ambrose,Vicky L. Chester,Michele L. Callisaya,Michele L. Callisaya,Velandai Srikanth,Guillaume Léonard,Anne-Marie De Cock,Ryuichi Sawa,Gustavo Duque,Richard Camicioli,Jorunn L. Helbostad +25 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors proposed consensus guidelines for gait assessment and spatiotemporal gait analysis based on the recorded footfalls, and reference values for healthy older adults free of cognitive impairment and multi-morbidities.
Journal ArticleDOI
Falls, cognitive impairment, and gait performance: results from the GOOD Initiative
Gilles Allali,Gilles Allali,Cyrille P. Launay,Helena M. Blumen,Michele L. Callisaya,Anne-Marie De Cock,Reto W. Kressig,Velandai Srikanth,Jean-Paul Steinmetz,Joe Verghese,Olivier Beauchet +10 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that non-AD, but not AD dementia, is associated with increased falls in comparison with CHIs, and the association between gait parameters and falls also differs across cognitive status, suggesting different mechanisms leading to falls in older individuals with dementia in comparison to CHIs who fall.
Journal ArticleDOI
Application of ultrasound for muscle assessment in sarcopenia: towards standardized measurements
Stany Perkisas,Stéphane Baudry,Jürgen M. Bauer,David Beckwée,David Beckwée,Anne-Marie De Cock,Hans Hobbelen,Hans Hobbelen,Harriët Jager-Wittenaar,Harriët Jager-Wittenaar,Agnieszka Kasiukiewicz,Francesco Landi,Ester Marco,Ana Merello,Karolina Piotrowicz,Elisabet Sánchez,Dolores Sánchez-Rodríguez,Aldo Scafoglieri,Alfonso J. Cruz-Jentoft,Maurits Vandewoude +19 more
TL;DR: This review provides an evidence base for an ultrasound protocol in the assessment of skeletal muscle with the use of US and creates conditions to further test the applicability of US for use on a large scale as a routine assessment and follow-up tool for appendicular muscle.
