MicroRNA-21 Is Up-Regulated in Allergic Airway Inflammation and Regulates IL-12p35 Expression
TL;DR: A miRNA signature in allergic airway inflammation is identified, which includes miR-21 that modulates IL-12, a molecule germane to Th cell polarization, which was decreased in IL-13 transgenic mice.
Journal ArticleDOI
Distinct roles for IL-13 and IL-4 via IL-13 receptor α1 and the type II IL-4 receptor in asthma pathogenesis
TL;DR: The data provide a comprehensive mechanistic analysis of the critical role by which IL-13Rα1 mediates allergic lung pathology and highlight unforeseen roles for the type I and type II IL-4R.
Journal ArticleDOI
Intestinal epithelial cell secretion of RELM-β protects against gastrointestinal worm infection
De'Broski R. Herbert,Jun-Qi Yang,Simon P. Hogan,Kathryn Groschwitz,Marat Khodoun,Marat Khodoun,Ariel Munitz,Tatyana Orekov,Tatyana Orekov,Charles Perkins,Charles Perkins,Quan Wang,Frank Brombacher,Joseph F. Urban,Marc E. Rothenberg,Fred D. Finkelman,Fred D. Finkelman,Fred D. Finkelman +17 more
TL;DR: A novel mechanism for host protection at the mucosal interface is demonstrated that explains how stimulation of epithelial cells by IL-4 and IL-13 contributes to protection against parasitic helminthes that dwell in the intestinal lumen.
Journal ArticleDOI
CCR3 is a target for age-related macular degeneration diagnosis and therapy
Atsunobu Takeda,Judit Z. Baffi,Mark E. Kleinman,Won Gil Cho,Miho Nozaki,Miho Nozaki,Kiyoshi Yamada,Hiroki Kaneko,Romulo Albuquerque,Sami Dridi,Kuniharu Saito,B.J. Raisler,Steven J. Budd,P. Geisen,Ariel Munitz,Balamurali K. Ambati,Balamurali K. Ambati,Martha G. Green,Tatsuro Ishibashi,John D. Wright,Alison A. Humbles,Craig Gerard,Yuichiro Ogura,Yuzhen Pan,Justine R. Smith,Salvatore Grisanti,M. Elizabeth Hartnett,Marc E. Rothenberg,Jayakrishna Ambati +28 more
TL;DR: It is shown that the eosinophil/mast cell chemokine receptor CCR3 is specifically expressed in choroidal neovascular endothelial cells in humans with AMD, and that despite the expression of its ligands eotaxin-1, -2 and -3, neither eos inophils nor mast cells are present in human CNV.
Journal ArticleDOI
Interleukin-4 Receptor α Signaling in Myeloid Cells Controls Collagen Fibril Assembly in Skin Repair.
Johanna A. Knipper,Sebastian Willenborg,Jürgen Brinckmann,Wilhelm Bloch,Tobias Maaß,Raimund Wagener,Thomas Krieg,Tara E. Sutherland,Ariel Munitz,Marc E. Rothenberg,Anja Niehoff,Rebecca J. Richardson,Matthias Hammerschmidt,Judith E. Allen,Sabine A. Eming +14 more
TL;DR: These findings provide mechanistic insights into the link between type 2 immunity and initiation of pro-fibrotic pathways and identify Relm-α as one important player in the pathway from IL-4Rα signaling in macrophages to the induction of lysyl hydroxylase 2 (LH2), an enzyme that directs persistent pro- fibril assembly in fibroblasts.
