Tert promoter mutations occur frequently in gliomas and a subset of tumors derived from cells with low rates of self-renewal
Hai Yan,Patrick J. Killela,Zachary J. Reitman,Yuchen Jiao,Chetan Bettegowda,Nishant Agrawal,Luis A. Diaz,Allan H. Friedman,Henry S. Friedman,G.L. Gallia,B.C. Giovanella,Arthur P. Grollman,Tong-Chuan He,Yiping He,R.H. Hruban,G.I. Jallo,Nils Mandahl,Alan K. Meeker,Fredrik Mertens,George J. Netto,B.A. Rasheed,Gregory J. Riggins,T.A. Rosenquist,M. Schiffman,IeM Shih,Dan Theodorescu,M.S. Torbenson,Victor E. Velculescu,Tian Li Wang,N. Wentzensen,Laura D. Wood,Ming Zhang,Patrick Healy,Rui Yang,Bill H. Diplas,Zhaohui Wang,Paula K. Greer,Huishan Zhu,Catherine Y. Wang,Austin B. Carpenter,James E. Herndon,Roger E. McLendon,Kenneth W. Kinzler,Bert Vogelstein,N. Papadopoulos,Darell D. Bigner +45 more
TL;DR: TERT and ATRX mutations suggest that these two genetic mechanisms confer equivalent selective growth advantages and provide a biomarker that may be useful for the early detection of urinary tract and liver tumors and aid in the classification and prognostication of brain tumors.
Journal ArticleDOI
The surgical management of chronic subdural hematoma
Andrew F. Ducruet,Bartosz T. Grobelny,Brad E. Zacharia,Zachary L. Hickman,Peter L. DeRosa,Kristen Anderson,Eric S Sussman,Austin B. Carpenter,E. Sander Connolly +8 more
TL;DR: An overview of the epidemiology and pathophysiology of cSDH is provided and several controversial management issues are discussed, including the timing of post-operative resumption of anticoagulant medications, the effectiveness of anti-epileptic prophylaxis, protocols for mobilization following evacuation of c SDH, as well as the comparative effectiveness of the various techniques of surgical evacuation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Mutations in IDH1 , IDH2 , and in the TERT promoter define clinically distinct subgroups of adult malignant gliomas
Patrick J. Killela,Christopher J. Pirozzi,Patrick Healy,Zachary J. Reitman,Eric S. Lipp,Ahmed Rasheed,Rui Yang,Bill H. Diplas,Zhaohui Wang,Paula K. Greer,Huishan Zhu,Catherine Y. Wang,Austin B. Carpenter,Henry S. Friedman,Allan H. Friedman,Stephen T. Keir,Jie He,Yiping He,Roger E. McLendon,James E. Herndon,Hai Yan,Darell D. Bigner +21 more
TL;DR: It is hypothesized and show that genetic signatures capable of distinguishing among several types of gliomas could be established providing clinically relevant information that can serve as an adjunct to histopathological diagnosis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Preoperative antiepileptic drug administration and the incidence of postoperative seizures following bur hole-treated chronic subdural hematoma.
Bartosz T. Grobelny,Andrew F. Ducruet,Brad E. Zacharia,Zachary L. Hickman,Kristen N. Andersen,Eric S Sussman,Austin B. Carpenter,E. Sander Connolly +7 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that preoperative AED prophylaxis likely reduces the incidence of postoperative seizures in patients with CSDH treated with bur hole drainage.
Journal ArticleDOI
Cic Loss Promotes Gliomagenesis via Aberrant Neural Stem Cell Proliferation and Differentiation.
Rui Yang,Lee H. Chen,Landon J. Hansen,Austin B. Carpenter,Casey J. Moure,Heng Liu,Christopher J. Pirozzi,Bill H. Diplas,Matthew S. Waitkus,Paula K. Greer,Huishan Zhu,Roger E. McLendon,Darell D. Bigner,Yiping He,Hai Yan +14 more
TL;DR: An important role for Cic is defined in regulating neural cell proliferation and lineage specification, and mechanistic explanations for how CIC mutations may impact the pathogenesis and therapeutic targeting of oligodendroglioma are suggested.
