Fasting Insulin and Obesity-Related Phenotypes Are Linked to Chromosome 2p: The Strong Heart Family Study
Vincent P. Diego,Harald H H Göring,Shelley A. Cole,Laura Almasy,Thomas D. Dyer,John Blangero,Ravindranath Duggirala,Sandra Laston,Charlotte R. Wenger,Teresa Cantu,Bennett Dyke,Kari E. North,Theodore G. Schurr,Lyle G. Best,Richard B. Devereux,Richard R. Fabsitz,Barbara V. Howard,Jean W. MacCluer +17 more
TL;DR: Bivariate linkage analyses of log fasting insulin with both BMI and fat mass indicate a situation of incomplete pleiotropy, as well as several significant bivariate LOD scores in the Dakotas.
Journal Article
Diabetes and coronary heart disease in American Indians
Barbara V. Howard,Elisa T. Lee,Richard R. Fabsitz,David C. Robbins,Jeunliang L. Yeh,Linda D. Cowan,Thomas K. Welty +6 more
TL;DR: Logistic regression analysis indicated that the prevalence of CHD among American Indians was significantly related to age, diabetes, hypertension, albuminuria, percentage of body fat, smoking, high concentrations of plasma insulin, and low concentrations of HDL cholesterol.
Journal ArticleDOI
A novel obesity locus on chromosome 4q: the Strong Heart Family Study.
Laura Almasy,Harald H H Göring,Vincent P. Diego,Shelley A. Cole,Sandra Laston,Bennett Dyke,Barbara V. Howard,Elisa T. Lee,Lyle G. Best,Richard B. Devereux,Richard R. Fabsitz,Jean W. MacCluer +11 more
TL;DR: The results of a genome‐wide scan for loci influencing BMI and weight in 963 individuals in 58 families from three American Indian populations in Arizona, Oklahoma, and North and South Dakota participating in the Strong Heart Family Study are reported.
Journal ArticleDOI
Diabetes-specific genetic effects on obesity traits in American Indian populations: the Strong Heart Family Study
Nora Franceschini,Laura Almasy,Jean W. MacCluer,Harald H H Göring,Shelley A. Cole,Vincent P. Diego,Sandra Laston,Barbara V. Howard,Elisa T. Lee,Lyle G. Best,Richard R. Fabsitz,Kari E. North +11 more
TL;DR: These results suggest distinct genetic effects on body mass in individuals with diabetes compared to those without diabetes, and a possible role for one or more genes on chromosome 1 in the pathogenesis of obesity.
Journal ArticleDOI
Insulin Resistance, Incident Cardiovascular Diseases, and Decreased Kidney Function Among Nondiabetic American Indians The Strong Heart Study
Ying Zhang,Elisa T. Lee,Barbara V. Howard,Lyle G. Best,Jason G. Umans,Jeunliang Yeh,Wenyu Wang,Fawn Yeh,Tauqeer Ali,Richard B. Devereux,Giovanni de Simone +10 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors explored the cross-sectional association between insulin resistance quantified by homeostasis model assessment (HOMA-IR) and demographic, behavioral, and cardiometabolic variables.
