Journal ArticleDOI

Lipoprotein composition in diabetes mellitus

TL;DR: The data indicate that diabetes may be associated with shifts in distribution of LDL and HDL, as well as with increases in VLDL.
Journal ArticleDOI

Lipoprotein[a] concentrations and apolipoprotein[a] phenotypes in Caucasians and African Americans. The CARDIA study.

TL;DR: The previously described inverse relationship between apo[a] size and Lp[ a] concentration was generally confirmed in Caucasians, but the B phenotype had lower Lp,[a] levels than the S1 or S2 phenotype, and in African Americans, both the B and S1 phenotypes had lower S2 phenotypes.
Journal ArticleDOI

Differences in Insulin Suppression of Free Fatty Acid Levels by Gender and Glucose Tolerance Status Relation to Plasma Triglyceride and Apolipoprotein B Concentrations

TL;DR: 2-hour FFA levels were significantly higher in men than women and in persons with impaired glucose tolerance and non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus versus normal glucose tolerance, and elevated plasma apoB and triglyceride concentrations associated with male gender and with glucose intolerance are partly accounted for by differences in the ability of insulin to suppress FFA concentrations.
Journal ArticleDOI

Electrocardiographic Repolarization Complexity and Abnormality Predict All-Cause and Cardiovascular Mortality in Diabetes: The Strong Heart Study

TL;DR: Computerized ECG measures of repolarization abnormality and complexity predict CV and all-cause mortality in type 2 diabetes, supporting their use to identify high-risk individuals with diabetes.
Journal ArticleDOI

Prevalence of gallbladder disease in American Indian populations: Findings from the Strong Heart Study☆

TL;DR: In this article, the authors determined the prevalence of gallbladder disease and associated risk factors among specified American Indian populations using ultrasonography and standardized diagnostic criteria, and found that GBD prevalence was found in epidemic proportions in diverse American Indians populations.
