Journal ArticleDOI
Insecticide exposure and farm history in relation to risk of lymphomas and leukemias in the Women's Health Initiative observational study cohort.
Leah H. Schinasi,Anneclaire J. De Roos,Roberta M. Ray,Kerstin L. Edlefsen,Christine G. Parks,Barbara V. Howard,Jaymie R. Meliker,Matthew R. Bonner,Robert B. Wallace,Andrea Z. LaCroix,Andrea Z. LaCroix +10 more
TL;DR: Insecticide exposures may contribute to risk of CLL/SLL and DLBCL and future studies should examine relationships of LH subtypes with specific types of household insecticides.
Journal ArticleDOI
Cardiovascular Disease in American Indian and Alaska Native Youth: Unique Risk Factors and Areas of Scholarly Need.
Jason F. Deen,Alexandra Adams,Alexandra Adams,Amanda M. Fretts,Stacey E. Jolly,Ana Navas-Acien,Ana Navas-Acien,Richard B. Devereux,Dedra Buchwald,Barbara V. Howard,Barbara V. Howard +10 more
TL;DR: A scientific forum with 18 investigators active in the field of population health disparities was held to discuss heart, lung, and sleep disorders in children and adolescents of American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN).
Journal ArticleDOI
Prognostic implications of relations of left ventricular systolic dysfunction with body composition and myocardial energy expenditure: the Strong Heart Study.
Vittorio Palmieri,Mary J. Roman,Jonathan N. Bella,Jennifer E. Liu,Lyle G. Best,Elisa T. Lee,Barbara V. Howard,Richard B. Devereux +7 more
TL;DR: Investigation of the relationships of estimated left ventricular (LV) myocardial energy expenditure (MEE) with LV systolic dysfunction, body composition, and inflammation in a population-based sample of adults without overt congestive heart failure found depressed EF was associated independently with higher MEE, lower adipose mass, and higher fibrinogen.
Journal ArticleDOI

Sven O. E. Ebbesson,Sandra Laston,Charlotte R. Wenger,Bennett Dyke,Terry Romenesko,Michael R. Swenson,Richard R. Fabsitz,Jean W. MacCluer,Richard B. Devereux,Mary J. Roman,David C. Robbins,Barbara V. Howard +11 more
TL;DR: Procedures for selection and enrollment and providing feedback and referrals for selecting and enrolling extended families into the study and for working with the NSHC Board, the village councils, and individual participants are described.
Journal ArticleDOI
Incremental Value of Biochemical and Echocardiographic Measures in Prediction of Ischemic Stroke The Strong Heart Study
Maria G. Karas,Richard B. Devereux,David O. Wiebers,Jack P. Whisnant,Lyle G. Best,Elisa T. Lee,Barbara V. Howard,Mary J. Roman,Jason G. Umans,Jorge R. Kizer +9 more
TL;DR: In this cohort at high cardiometabolic risk, HbA1c emerged as the foremost predictor of ischemic stroke when added to traditional risk factors, affording substantially improved discrimination, with a more modest contribution for left atrial diameter.
