TL;DR: In this article, Antiretroviral therapy that reduces viral replication could limit the transmission of human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) in serodiscordant couples.
Journal ArticleDOI
Antiretroviral Therapy for the Prevention of HIV-1 Transmission
Myron S. Cohen,Ying Q. Chen,Marybeth McCauley,Theresa Gamble,Mina C. Hosseinipour,Nagalingeswaran Kumarasamy,James Hakim,Johnstone Kumwenda,Beatriz Grinsztejn,José Henrique Pilotto,Sheela Godbole,Suwat Chariyalertsak,Breno Santos,Kenneth H. Mayer,Irving F. TL;DR: The early initiation of ART led to a sustained decrease in genetically linked HIV-1 infections in sexual partners, and was associated with a 93% lower risk of linked partner infection than was delayed ART.
Journal ArticleDOI
Safety and efficacy of the HIV-1 integrase inhibitor raltegravir (MK-0518) in treatment-experienced patients with multidrug-resistant virus: a phase II randomised controlled trial
Beatriz Grinsztejn,Bach Yen Nguyen,Christine Katlama,Jose M. Gatell,Adriano Lazzarin,Daniel Vittecoq,Charles J. Gonzalez,Joshua Chen,Charlotte M. Harvey,Robin Isaacs +9 more
TL;DR: In patients with few remaining treatment options, raltegravir at all doses studied provided better viral suppression than placebo when added to an optimised background regimen.
Journal ArticleDOI
Dolutegravir versus raltegravir in antiretroviral-experienced, integrase-inhibitor-naive adults with HIV: week 48 results from the randomised, double-blind, non-inferiority SAILING study.
Pedro Cahn,Anton Pozniak,Horacio Mingrone,Andrey Shuldyakov,Carlos Brites,Jaime Andrade-Villanueva,Gary Richmond,Carlos Beltran Buendia,Jan Fourie,Moti Ramgopal,Debbie Hagins,Franco Felizarta,José Valdez Madruga,Tania Reuter,Tamara Newman,Catherine B. Small,John Lombaard,Beatriz Grinsztejn,David Dorey,Mark R. Underwood,Sandy Griffith,Sherene Min +21 more
TL;DR: Once-daily dolutegravir, in combination with up to two other antiretroviral drugs, is well tolerated with greater virological effect compared with twice-daily raltegravIR in this treatment-experienced patient group.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effects of early versus delayed initiation of antiretroviral treatment on clinical outcomes of HIV-1 infection: results from the phase 3 HPTN 052 randomised controlled trial
Beatriz Grinsztejn,Mina C. Hosseinipour,Heather J. Ribaudo,Susan Swindells,Joseph J. Eron,Ying Q. Chen,Lei Wang,San San Ou,Maija Anderson,Marybeth McCauley,Theresa Gamble,N. Havlir,Myron S. Cohen +32 more
TL;DR: The clinical benefits recorded, combined with the striking reduction in HIV-1 transmission risk previously reported, provides strong support for earlier initiation of antiretroviral treatment.
