TL;DR: In this article, Antiretroviral therapy that reduces viral replication could limit the transmission of human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) in serodiscordant couples.
Journal ArticleDOI
Isolation of T-cell tropic HTLV-III-like retrovirus from macaques
Daniel,Norman L. Letvin,Norval W. King,Mari Kannagi,Prabhat K. Sehgal,R. D. Hunt,Phyllis J. Kanki,Myron Essex,Ronald C. Desrosiers +8 more
TL;DR: The isolation of a T-cell tropic retrovirus from three immunodeficient macaques and one macaque with lymphoma is described, and it is indicated that it is related to the causative agent of acquired immune deficiency syndrome in humans.
Journal ArticleDOI
Major glycoprotein antigens that induce antibodies in AIDS patients are encoded by HTLV-III
James S. Allan,John E. Coligan,F Barin,MF McLane,Joseph Sodroski,Craig A. Rosen,William A. Haseltine,Tak H. Lee,Myron Essex +8 more
TL;DR: It is hypothesized that gp160 and gp120 represent the major species of virus-encoded envelope gene products for HTLV-III.
Journal ArticleDOI

TL;DR: All regimens of HAART from pregnancy through 6 months post partum resulted in high rates of virologic suppression, with an overall rate of mother-to-child transmission of 1.1%.

TL;DR: Daily acyclovir therapy did not reduce the risk of transmission of HIV-1, despite a reduction in plasma HIV- 1 RNA of 0.25 log(10) copies per milliliter and a 73% reduction in the occurrence of genital ulcers due to HSV-2.
