Journal ArticleDOI

Mild chronic hyponatremia is associated with falls, unsteadiness, and attention deficits.

TL;DR: Mild chronic hyponatremia induces a high incidence of falls possibly as the result of marked gait and attention impairments, and treating these patients might prevent a considerable number of hospitalizations.
Journal ArticleDOI

Autosomal dominant transmission of congenital thyroid hypoplasia due to loss-of-function mutation of PAX8.

TL;DR: A novel mutation of PAX8 is described causing autosomal dominant transmission of CH with thyroid hypoplasia, giving further evidence that, contrary to the situation in knockout mice, haplo-insufficiency of Pax8 is a cause of CH in humans.
Journal ArticleDOI

Palmitoylation of CCR5 is critical for receptor trafficking and efficient activation of intracellular signaling pathways.

TL;DR: It is found that palmitoylated cysteines play an important role in the intracellular trafficking of CCR5 and are likely necessary for efficient coupling of the receptor to part of its repertoire of signaling cascades.
Journal ArticleDOI

HIV-1 glycoprotein 120 induces the MMP-9 cytopathogenic factor production that is abolished by inhibition of the p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase signaling pathway

TL;DR: Because neurodegenerative features in acquired immune deficiency syndrome dementia may involve demyelinization by MMP-9, the specific targeting of p38 could provide a novel means to control HIV-induced cytopathogenic effects and cell homing to viral replication sites.
Journal ArticleDOI

Attention and postural balance are much more affected in older than in younger adults with mild or moderate chronic hyponatremia

TL;DR: This study asked twenty-three consecutive patients with chronic hyponatremia due to syndrome of inappropriate secretion of antidiuretic hormone (SIADH) to perform 4 selected visual and auditive attention tests and a gait test before and after correction of hypon atremia (usually by urea).
