LSST: from Science Drivers to Reference Design and Anticipated Data Products

Željko Ivezić, +312 more
- 15 May 2008 -
TL;DR: The LSST design is driven by four main science themes: probing dark energy and dark matter, taking an inventory of the solar system, exploring the transient optical sky, and mapping the Milky Way.

LSST Science Book, Version 2.0

Paul A. Abell, +245 more
TL;DR: The Large Synoptic Survey Telescope (LSST) as discussed by the authors will have an effective aperture of 6.7 meters and an imaging camera with field of view of 9.6 degrees.
Journal ArticleDOI

Forming Disk Galaxies in Lambda CDM Simulations

TL;DR: In this article, the authors used fully cosmological, high resolution N-body + SPH simulations to follow the formation of disk galaxies with rotational velocities between 135 and 270 km/sec in a Lambda CDM universe.
Journal ArticleDOI

A common mass scale for satellite galaxies of the Milky Way

TL;DR: New measurements of the velocities of the stars in these galaxies are used to show that they are consistent with them having a common mass of about 107 within their central 300 parsecs, demonstrating that the faintest of the Milky Way satellites are the most dark-matter-dominated galaxies known.
