Journal ArticleDOI
Criteria for evaluating disease response and progression in patients with multiple myeloma treated by high-dose therapy and haemopoietic stem cell transplantation. Myeloma Subcommittee of the EBMT. European Group for Blood and Marrow Transplant.
Joan Bladé,Diana Samson,Donna E. Reece,Jane F. Apperley,Bo Björkstrand,Gösta Gahrton,Morie A. Gertz,Sergio Giralt,SUNDARr Jagannath,David H. Vesole +9 more
TL;DR: New criteria for response and progression have been developed as a result of discussions between representatives of the Myeloma Subcommittee of the Chronic Leukaemia Working Party of the European Group for Blood and Marrow Transplantation (EBMT) and representatives ofThe Myelomas Working Committee of the Autologousblood and marrow transplant Registry (ABMTR) and the International Bone Marrowtransplant Registry (IBMTR).
Journal ArticleDOI
Progress in allogenic bone marrow and peripheral blood stem cell transplantation for multiple myeloma: a comparison between transplants performed 1983--93 and 1994--8 at European Group for Blood and Marrow Transplantation centres.
G. Gahrton,H. Svensson,Michele Cavo,J. F. Apperley,Almalina Bacigalupo,Bo Björkstrand,J. Bladé,Jeroen J. L. M. Cornelissen,A. De Laurenzi,Thierry Facon,Per Ljungman,Mauricette Michallet,Dietger Niederwieser,R. L. Powles,Josy Reiffers,Nigel H. Russell,D. Samson,Ulrich W. Schaefer,A.V.M.B. Schattenberg,Tura S,Leo F. Verdonck,J P Vernant,R. Willemze,Liisa Volin +23 more
TL;DR: Reasons for the reduced transplant‐related mortality appeared to be fewer deaths owing to bacterial and fungal infections and interstitial pneumonitis, in turn a result of earlier transplantation and less prior chemotherapy, which may also play a role.
Journal ArticleDOI
Outcomes for reduced-intensity allogeneic transplantation for multiple myeloma: an analysis of prognostic factors from the Chronic Leukaemia Working Party of the EBMT.
Charles Crawley,Marc Lalancette,Richard Szydlo,Maria H. Gilleece,Karl S. Peggs,Stephen Mackinnon,Gunnar Juliusson,Lucia Ahlberg,Arnon Nagler,Avichai Shimoni,Anna Sureda,Jean-Michel Boiron,Herman Einsele,Rajesh Chopra,Angelo Michele Carella,Jamie Cavenagh,Alois Gratwohl,Frédéric Garban,Axel R. Zander,Bo Björkstrand,Dietger Niederwieser,Gösta Gahrton,Jane F. Apperley +22 more
TL;DR: While RIC is feasible, heavily pretreated patients and patients with progressive disease do not benefit, suggesting that a graft-versus-myeloma effect is important.
Journal ArticleDOI
Melphalan and prednisone plus thalidomide or placebo in elderly patients with multiple myeloma
Anders Waage,Peter Gimsing,Peter Fayers,Peter Fayers,Niels Abildgaard,Lucia Ahlberg,Bo Björkstrand,Kristina Carlson,Inger Marie S. Dahl,Karin Forsberg,Nina Gulbrandsen,Einar Haukås,Øyvind Hjertner,Martin Hjorth,Torbjörn Karlsson,Lene Meldgaard Knudsen,Johan Lanng Nielsen,Olle Linder,Ulf-Henrik Mellqvist,Ingerid Nesthus,Jürgen Rolke,Maria Strandberg,Jon Hjalmar Sørbø,Finn Wisløff,Gunnar Juliusson,Ingemar Turesson +25 more
TL;DR: MPT had a significant antimyeloma effect, but this did not translate into improved survival, and most quality of life outcomes improved equally in both arms, apart from constipation, which was markedly increased in the MPT arm.
Journal ArticleDOI
Autologous antitumor activity by NK cells expanded from myeloma patients using GMP-compliant components.
Evren Alici,Tolga Sutlu,Bo Björkstrand,Mari Gilljam,Birgitta Stellan,Hareth Nahi,Hernan Concha Quezada,Gösta Gahrton,Hans-Gustaf Ljunggren,M. Sirac Dilber +9 more
TL;DR: It is proposed that autologous NK cells expanded ex vivo deserve further attention as a possible new treatment modality for MM.
