Clinical risk factors associated with multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) in Mali
Bocar Baya,Chad J. Achenbach,Bourahima Kone,Yacouba Toloba,Djeneba Dabitao,Bassirou Diarra,D Goita,Seydou Diabate,Mamoudou Maiga,Dianguina Soumaré,Khadidia Ouattara,T. Akanbi,Michael Belson,Sounkalo Dao,Susan Orsega,Sophia Siddiqui,Seydou Doumbia,Robert L. Murphy,Souleymane Diallo +27 more
TL;DR: Several risk factors are identified that could be used to identify MDR-TB suspects and prioritize them for laboratory confirmation and Prospective studies are needed to understand factors associated with TB incidence and clinical outcomes of TB treatment and disease.
Journal ArticleDOI
Whole Genome Sequencing of Mycobacterium africanum Strains from Mali Provides Insights into the Mechanisms of Geographic Restriction
Kathryn Winglee,Abigail Manson McGuire,Mamoudou Maiga,Mamoudou Maiga,Thomas Abeel,Thomas Abeel,Terrance Shea,Christopher A. Desjardins,Bassirou Diarra,Bocar Baya,Moumine Sanogo,Souleymane Diallo,Ashlee M. Earl,William R. Bishai +13 more
TL;DR: This is the largest collection of lineage 5 and 6 whole genome sequences to date, and assembly and alignment data provide valuable insights into what distinguishes these lineages from other MTC lineages.
Journal ArticleDOI
Evolution of Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex lineages and their role in an emerging threat of multidrug resistant tuberculosis in Bamako, Mali.
Madikay Senghore,Madikay Senghore,Bassirou Diarra,Florian Gehre,Florian Gehre,Jacob Otu,Archibald Worwui,Abdul Khalie Muhammad,Brenda Kwambana-Adams,Gemma L. Kay,Gemma L. Kay,Moumine Sanogo,Bocar Baya,Susan Orsega,Seydou Doumbia,Souleymane Diallo,Bouke C. de Jong,Mark J. Pallen,Mark J. Pallen,Martin Antonio,Martin Antonio +20 more
TL;DR: It is a major concern to find the Cameroon and Ghana genotypes involved in community transmission and MDR-TB respectively and the presence of the Beijing genotype in Bamako remains worrying, given its high transmissibility and virulence.
Journal ArticleDOI
Establishing Reference Ranges of Hematological Parameters from Malian Healthy Adults.
Bourahima Kone,Mamoudou Maiga,Mamoudou Maiga,Mamoudou Maiga,Bocar Baya,Yds Sarro,Nadie Coulibaly,Amadou Kone,Bassirou Diarra,Moumine Sanogo,Acg Togo,D Goita,M Dembele,Michael A. Polis,J Warfield,Michael Belson,Sounkalo Dao,Susan Orsega,Robert L. Murphy,Souleymane Diallo,Sophia Siddiqui +20 more
TL;DR: The immuno-hematological parameter ranges for Malian healthy adults are described to help physicians to better define hematological abnormalities in patients and may also be used to define new “normalHematological values” in Malian population or in the whole West African population.
Journal ArticleDOI
Mycobacterium africanum (Lineage 6) shows slower sputum smear conversion on tuberculosis treatment than Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Lineage 4) in Bamako, Mali.
Bassirou Diarra,Mahamadou Kone,Antieme Combo Georges Togo,Yeya dit Sadio Sarro,A. B. Cisse,Amadou Somboro,Boureima Degoga,Mohamed Tolofoudie,Bourahima Kone,Moumine Sanogo,Bocar Baya,Ousmane Kodio,Mamoudou Maiga,Michael Belson,Susan Orsega,Meryam Krit,Sounkalo Dao,Ibrahim Maiga,Robert L. Murphy,Leen Rigouts,Seydou Doumbia,Souleymane Diallo,Bouke C. de Jong +22 more
TL;DR: It is found that patients diseased with modern M. tuberculosis complex L4 respond faster to TB treatment than those with M. africanum L6, and HIV negative status, higher BMI at day 0, and patients with smear grade at baseline ≤ 1+ were associated with earlier smear conversion.
